Opinions please

Yesterday while we were shopping in the States, I found a really great pair of earrings at Macy's for only $40. I am thinking of wearing them for my wedding but can't decide if they are too small and not enough for wedding earrings. I'm a very short person (5'2) so I don't want something that is over powering.

The earrings

Don't mind the bad picture of me, but so you can get an idea of what they look like on

Here is a reminder what my dress looks like. Do you think they will look ok once I have my hair and make-up done?

Hope you have a safe and happy New Year's eve!

Great idea!

Mr.D and I got a late Christmas present from one of my mom's close friends. She made us a "smitten", which is a really cute idea!

This is what she described it as:

"It is a "smitten" because you are smitten with each other and it's so freaking cold where you live! Now you can still hold hands when you go for a walk without getting frost bite!"

Today we went shopping in the States and I might have found earrings for the wedding day. I'll be posting them tomorrow and will need your opinions!

Holiday recap

Since Mr.D and I have been home at my mom's house, we have been busy! Busy visiting with friends and family and of course eating way too much! I think we will be in shock when we head home and all the holiday eating stops...but it will be a good thing for my waist line!

Here are some pictures from the past few days:

Home sweet home

Mr.D and I made it home safe and sound to my mom's house. I guess that means it's time for Christmas to begin! Tonight my mom is making chinese food and we are having a few family friends over. Tomorrow is gift time at both my mom's house and dad's house.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas!

Getting excited!

Today Mr.D and I are flying to my hometown in Ontario to spend Christmas with my family. I haven`t seen everyone since October, so it will be nice to spend time with them. We are home for 9 days and I think we have multiple things planned for each day!

We will be spending time with:

My mom

My dad and younger brother:

Although it's not a person, but we will be spending time at my childhood home:

And of course we will be catching up with lots of other family and friends. I still can't believe that Christmas is here already!

Last night, I spent the night watching PS-I Love You (love that movie!) and packing my bag. It was also snowing really hard, so hopefully our flight isn't delayed.

Hope you have a great day!

Weekend Recap....a day late

This weekend was very busy, but filled with lots of friends and family. On Friday night, Mr.D and I drove to back to his parent's hometown, where our friends were having a Christmas party. It was great catching up with friends that we hadn't seen in months.

On Saturday, I helped my future MIL prepare everything for our early Christmas/ belated birthday dinner. Here are some pictures from the day:

My MIL's Christmas tree

On Sunday, we caught up with a friend and his fiancee as they were home for a visit. It was great to see them! I headed back home and just made it in time for my soccer game.

Only one more day of work left this week! I can't believe that Christmas has come so soon!

Busy, busy, busy!

The above sentence pretty much sums up my weekend! It was great to see friends and family though.

I'll be back later today to give a full update!

It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas...

Yesterday at work, one of my co-workers gave me an early Christmas present. It was a candle from Bath & Body Works that smells like a Christmas tree! Since we won't be here over Christmas, we won't be getting a tree. This candle makes me feel like we actually have one.

This weekend we are heading to Mr.D's parents house for his birthday/ early Christmas celebration. On Friday, our friend's are having a Christmas party and since we don't get to see our friends often, it will be great to catch up with everyone.

Only 3 more days of work and I'm off on Christmas holidays! Can't wait!

Hope you have a great weekend!

A special day...

Today, I want to send out a special birthday wish to Mr.D. He turns 27 years young ;)

Mr.D is the most caring, loving, funny, thoughtful person I know and I can't wait to celebrate many more birthdays in the future with him! I am taking him out for sushi on Thursday to celebrate and then this weekend we are also celebrating with his family.

Hope you have a great day!

Wedding nightmares!

With just under 9 months left until the wedding, we have a lot of the major things booked. So far we have booked/bought:

1. Venue
2. Photographer
3. DJ
4. Wedding dress
5. Centre pieces
6. Table runners
7. Wedding bands
8. Save the dates are out

But sometimes, I will have a random nightmare about the wedding. Like last night, I dreamt about the wedding and how it turned out. It was nothing that I had planned on and everything that could go wrong did! All I remember is that my hair and make-up were terrible! I've also had previous nightmares that my dress didn't fit!

I hope these nightmares stop soon because they are not fun at all!

Have you ever had nightmares relating to your wedding?

Weekend Recap

Another weekend has come and gone by too fast! I can't believe that Christmas is in less than 11 days!

On Friday night, we had a soccer game, which we won. Even better I scored a goal for the first time in a while. Bright and early on Saturday morning, we braved the mall to get our Christmas shopping done. Luckily it was pretty cold, so I think that kept a lot of shoppers away. I have all the presents for everyone on my list, so now all I have to do is wrap it. On Saturday night, one of my co-workers had everyone in the office over for dinner. She had my dream kitchen! It was a funny night because I was the youngest by 20 years, and it was funny to hear everyone complain/talk about after 15+ years of marriage.

On Sunday, BM K came over and helped Mr.D and I make lots of cookies. We made ginger snaps, chocolate chip cookies except with m&m's, snickerdoodles and chocolate crinkles.

Mr.D and I decided that we wanted to make packages of cookies to take into our co-workers as a holiday treat. This is how they turned out:

Who does the chores?

Last weekend, at BM K's birthday, someone was asking Mr.D and I questions about our relationship and how we do things. It made me think about how we are and what it is like for other couples.

Some of the questions were who makes dinner, who does the cleaning, who does the laundry, etc. Since Mr.D and I moved in together, I have done of the majority of the above. Although, he does help with the laundry, make dinner on occassion and help to clean, it basically me who does it. Although, we share doing the dishes equally which is really nice. I'm not complaining about doing all of those things, because I do enjoy them (but can't iron to save my life!). And I secretly like doing it because then I can do it my way and how I want it done.

Our relationship may seem unfair, but if we go out for dinner or to do something, it is usually Mr.D who pays. Who does what in your relationship? Is it lopsided or are the chores shared equally?

I showed you yesterday my DIY advant calendar for Mr.D and today is the first day of it. I know, tomorrow isn't 12 days before Christmas, but we are heading to Ontario for Christmas on the 23rd, so I wanted to make sure he could open them all before we left :)

The first reason I love Mr.D is:
I love his cuddles!

Hope you have a great weekend!

DIY Advant Calender

This year, I decided to make my own advant calender for Mr.D. I saw some really cool ideas here, but decided to come up with something on my own.

I took to a trip the dollar store and Michael's to get my supplies. I got:
-12 mini Christmas boxes
-foam numbers
-round styrofoam

I already had the black spray paint and ribbon. I think the total for all of the supplies was $15.

I started off by spray painting the styrofoam circle black. I then cut out all of the numbers from a foam sheet and then hot glued them onto the individual boxes. Once the styrofoam was dry, I hotglued the boxes onto it. Once dry, I filled each box with candy and for each day, I wrote a sentence about things that I love about Mr.D. I might share what I wrote once he starts to open them.

This is how it turned out:

Wedding photographer

One of the biggest challenges so far in wedding planning was finding a photographer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! Although pictures are important to us, we couldn't stomach spending over $4000 on a photographer.

I basically searched Google, Kijiji, etc for a couple weeks before coming up with our photographer. We met with her back in the spring and are very happy with our decision! The best part is the price and that we get two photographers for the day.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of hers:

If you want to check out more of her photos, go here.

Sex in a pan?!

Sorry if I got you a little excited by the post title, but I need some help! This weekend a co-worker is having all of the staff over for a Christmas party and I signed up to bring dessert. But I have no ideas of what to bring! I usually bring cookies, but I already planned on bringing some in for everyone closer to Christmas. So, I need some ideas of what to bring. My friend suggested "sex in a pan"...I've never had it, but supposedly it's almost as good as sex!

Do you have any good dessert recipes?

Weekend Recap

My weekend started early on Friday thanks to a snow storm. My boss was nice enough to let us leave 2.5 hours early, so we wouldn't be stuck in the terrible weather. From Friday to Saturday, we got atleast 20cm of snow! Since the weather was so terrible on Friday, we stayed in and enjoyed a relaxing night.

Saturday I baked up a storm! I made banana muffins, homemade pizza dough and olive oil and rosemary crackers. All turned out delicious! It was my friend and bridesmaids K's birthday, so we went to her house for a bit for food and drinks. We had a soccer game at 9:15pm (we finally won!) so we went to that and then met up with everyone at the bar later on. It was a fun night out!

Sunday we ran some errands and I started on some wedding projects. I am hoping to slowly do a little bit here and there and get it all done long before the wedding.

Christmas also came early in our house! Mr. D and I decided to buy each other a new camera for Christmas and we found a great deal. We bought the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS. We are still learning everything about it, but it's been great so far!

Here are some shots from the new camera:

Save the Dates

My first DIY of the wedding was for our save the dates. I didn't have a lot of inspiration for our save the dates, but I knew I wanted to make them myself to save money.

I ended up using a picture that we had taken a month before as an anniversary gift to ourselves. I found a font from and edited the picture using photoshop. Although I have no experience with photoshop, I learned as I went and it was pretty easy!

We ended up printing the save the dates in the form of 4x6 pictures from Costco. The best part was that if you signed up for a new account, you got 25 prints free. I ended up getting 75 save the dates printed and it cost me about $7.

This is how they turned out:

(I changed our names, so please excuse that)

With stamps, envelopes, picture printing, etc I think the total I spent was about $50. I think they turned out pretty well!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Holiday Recipes

Since the holiday season is quickly approaching and there are lots of parties to go to, I thought I would post a different recipe each week. I always love to find new recipes to bring to parties/gatherings!

This week is a recipe for ginger snaps that I have tried myself. I'm not claiming that they are anywhere near healthy, but they are so delicious!

Wet Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter or shortening (I used margarine)
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses

Dry Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 tbsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
2. Add all of the dry ingredients together in a small bowl.
3. In a medium or large bowl, mix all of the wet ingredients together.
4. Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
5. Mix together well. It will seem dry at first, but keep mixing. Your hands can be used for this step too.
6. Take tsp sized spoonfulls and make into round balls and then roll in white sugar. 7. Then evenly space them out on your cookie sheet as they do spread.
8. Bake for 8-12 minutes, depending on your oven. (mine took about 9 minutes)
The recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies.

What is your favourite holiday recipe?

23 Things About Me

I've seen this done on other blogs before, so I thought I would do one for my age so everyone can get to know me a little bit better.

1. I am a very shy person if I am around people I don't know, but as soon as I get to know someone, I can be quite talkative.
2. I am a sucker for romantic movies.
3. That being said, I am also a very emotional person. No matter the time of the month.
4. I have a bad addiction to Diet Coke.
5. I grew up in a really small town in Ontario. I'm talking one main street with no stop lights. Although we did have a bank, liquour store, small grocery store. You know you are jealous!
6. I hate being tickled!
7. I am scared of heights, but yet love rollercoasters
8. I have never had a bloody nose, broke a bone or had stitches. (knock on wood!)
9. Growing up, I was a super picky eater. My tastes have expanded now though.
10. My favorite meat is chicken. I could eat it everyday! This is also why I could never be a vegetarian
11. I dislike it when people call me Leah. It's Leigh.
12. I didn't have my first kiss until 14 or 15
13. I am petrified of the dentist!
14. Whenever I am sitting on the couch watching TV, I have to have a blanket on me. Maybe it's because I am always cold.
15. I am definitely not a morning person. I prefer to sleep in to 9 or 10. If only that was possible everyday!
16. Although I love shopping for clothes and getting my hair done, I was the biggest tom boy when I was younger.
17. I have two brothers, one younger and one older.
18. We all have the same big, blue eyes.
19. I can't wait to have kids. Three to be exact.
20. I can be very sarcastic and apologize in advance if you take something I say the wrong way.
21. I really enjoy baking, but am scared to stray from recipes and make them my own.
22. Before I die, I really want to run a marathon and sky drive. Both scare the hell out of me!
23. I am excited and nervous to get married next summer!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was very relaxing, which was nice since all the weekends leading up to Christmas are busy with work parties, birthdays and visiting family!

Friday night after work, I had my hair done, which is always nice. During the day, a storm moved into the city and caused major issues! It was snowing all day and then started to freeze, which caused all of the roadways to turn into a skating rink! It doesn't help that the city I live in is full of hilly roads. Welcome to winter!

Because of the weather, we stayed in a watched the movie Four Christmases. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend it! It was hilarious and I'm not sure how they managed to come up with so many wacky characters.

Saturday the weather still wasn't nice, so we hung out during the day and watched the movie Up. I'm not normally a big fan of animated movies, but this one was funny and cute! Later that night, we had an indoor soccer game, which we tied. Better than losing though!

On Sunday, we did some running around for birthday presents. I also tried out a new recipe for ginger snaps. They turned out really well and will be posting the recipe later in the week if anyone wants it.

It's the weekend!

I am happy it's's been one of those weeks where Friday couldn't come soon enough!

Although we won't be having turkey or doing some black Friday shopping (jealous!), we have some things planned for this weekend.

-Tonight I am getting my hair done
-Saturday night we have a soccer game with our indoor co-ed team
-Sunday I am hoping to bake some cookies!

What do you have planned for this weekend?

Another 5K?

At the end of October, Mr.D and I ran our first 5K. Although we had never run one before, about a month prior we decided it would be a good idea (ok, maybe it was my idea, but he agreed!).

The morning of the race, we woke up to a sight you don't really want to see when you are about to run your first 5K.....SNOW! It was snowing the entire race, which left for a very slushy course and wet feet. Besides that, the race went really well. The funniest part of the race was that I beat Mr.D! Okay, let me explain. There was a 5K and a 10K happening at the same time, and all of the runners began together. Mr.D was ahead of me and missed the turn for the 5K and ended up running an extra kilometer before he realized he missed the turn for our race! I don't think he will ever live that one down :)

Here is us after the race. You can kind of tell how slushy it was that day!

Ever since that race, my running has nearly stopped. Signing up for another race would help to get my motivation back. I am thinking about signing up for another 5K in the middle of December, but I'm risking the fact it might be -15C out.

Should I just take the risk and sign up for it or wait until the spring?

Dresses for the ladies

When it came to finding dresses for my bridesmaids, I knew that I was pretty open to anything that they came up with. The only thing that I wanted was for the dresses to be green and not on the expensive side of things. Bridesmaid T and I did a lot of emailing back and forth with ideas over the first couple of months, but couldn't agree on one dress.

One day, BM T was in a Winners store (the Canadian version of TJ Maxx) and she emailed me saying she had found the PERFECT dresses. Best part of them? The price tag: $39.99! I couldn't believe our luck! The only problem was that there were only two dresses and we couldn't find a third. So my mom luckily came to our rescue and found a third one in Ontario. The even better part of this dress? It was on sale for $15! The only thing was that it was a slightly different style of dress from the other two, but I quickly decided it was worth it and that my MOH would be wearing it.

Here is what the dresses look like (the green one of course):

I think with some great earrings and shoes, they will look great!

Have you found any amazing deals for your wedding?

Finding "the one"

As soon as we got engaged, I began the hunt for a wedding dress. I knew that I wanted something that was simple, but not too simple. Something that had lace and was more a-line than ball gown as I am really short! I think my biggest criteria is that I wanted to still felt like myself in the dress.

Here are some of my inspirations:

About two months after we got engaged, my bridesmaid T and I went and checked out a local bridal shop. I told that sales lady that I wanted something that was lace and not over the top. The first two dresses were pretty, but didn't give me that "feeling". As she brought in the third dress, I immediately loved it. Once it was on, and as I saw the look on T's face when I came out, I knew it was the one! There wasn't one thing that I disliked about the dress. I think I even had our sales lady crying too! The only downfall to the dress was that it was about $1000 over my budget.

We left that shop and decided to continue searching at other bridal shops, but nothing compared to "the one". About two months later, my mom came out for a visit and I took her to see the dress. She knew right away that it was the one too! Although my mom kindly offered to pay the difference in price, I couldn't justify the cost (as altering would have been almost $1000 because I am so short!) So I turned to and luckily found someone who was selling hers for much less than the retail price. I am so glad that I went that route and have nothing good things to say about the experience!

If you want to see what I fell in love with and can't wait to wear on our wedding day, go here.

Did it take you a long time to find "the one"?

Wedding Inspiration

I think the easiest choice I have made so far in the wedding planning process so far, is the choice of our colour theme. We chose to go with green, chocolate brown and ivory. To me, they are so simple yet so pretty! The biggest thing that we want for our wedding, is for our guests to have fun and celebrate in the day with us! While I have been overloading myself with wedding blogs, there have a been a few things that stuck out in my mind.

Like these great green shoes or DIY pomanders and our initials seen here. Or these great pots as a potential favour for our guests.

Where did you find your ideas for your wedding?

"There must have been something in the air"

How did I get here? Well, let's see. I grew up in a small town in Ontario, Canada until I moved to Alberta over a year ago. Why the move to Alberta you might ask? That's where my fiance (anyone else think that word is strange?) comes in.

In 2007, I was on vacation in Mexcio with my family when I met one of Mr.D's friends, who in turned introduced me to Mr.D. It turns out that Mr.D was staying at the same resort as me and over the next few days, we hung out and got to know each other. After the week in the sun and sand, I returned to Ontario and Mr.D returned to Alberta. In the following months, we continued to talk and get to know each other. That summer I decided to take a big leap and move to Alberta. The summer came to an end and I had to return home to finish my final year of school. For the next 8 months, we endured a long distance relationship. After we both graduated from university, I moved back to Alberta and have been here ever since.

I guess you could say something was in the air on that trip! It's definitely not your average love story, but it's the story of us! Does anyone else have a different story of how you met your significant other?

Hello there!

So, where to begin? I created this blog as a way to keep track of my ideas and thoughts while I go through the whirlwind of wedding planning. I am marrying my best friend and confidante next summer and am already excited for the day!

I am a twenty-something year old who likes reading, bargain shopping, soccer and crafts. I'm sure that a little bit of everything will make it's way onto this blog and that's okay with me!

I'm new to this blogging this so take it easy on me!
