{wedding wednesday} tissue paper pomanders

Yesterday was a pretty busy day, so {wedding wednesday} had to be delayed for a day. This week, I want to talk about my DIY tissue paper pomanders. Since our ceremony is going to be outside, I am wanting a way to lead our guests to the ceremony site and to make an 'aisle'.

1. stryofoam balls (in the size you want)
2. tissue paper
3. floral wire (cut into 3.5-4 inch pieces)
4. ruler
5. scissors
6. rotary cutter
7. ribbon
8. low temperature hot glue gun/glue

1. Measure out 10 x 4" (or desired size depending on the size of flower you are wanting) squares of tissue paper. I used a rotary cutter with a ruler to do this.

2. Gather four-five pieces of tissue paper and begin to accordian fold the pieces.

3. Once the pieces have been folded, take a pice of pre-cut floral wire and fold over in the middle of the tissue paper and twist. Be careful with what way you wrap the floral want to make sure that the folds are facing up. I also used a pair of plyers to twist the wire and to ensure it stayed tight.
4. Begin to "peel" each layer of tissue paper up towards the centre and the wire while working in a circular motion.
5. This is what the finished product will look like:

6. You will now need your stryofoam ball, glue gun and finished tissue paper flowers. Take a flower and put a dab of glue near the twist and then begin to put them into the styrofoam ball. Work your way around the styrofoam ball until it is completely covered. You will need to leave a space to put a wire twist with ribbon into the styrofoam ball.

This project is time consuming, but I have been working on each step over a few weekends. It is also a relatively cheap project...I bought most of my materials from the Dollar Store and Wal-Mart.
How do you think they turned out?

  1. These look so cute!! Good job girl!

  2. Oooh I think they look GREAT! I love DIY stuff like that for weddings!! Good job :-)

  3. Those are awesome! DIY stuff is great - great way to add personal touches w/ out breaking the bank!
