{wedding wednesday} DIY invitations: cost breakdown

Last week, I showed you my finished DIY invitations and this week I will give you the cost breakdown. My goal for the invitations was to keep the costs under $100 not including stamps.

Materials and Cost:
Brown cardstock
$37.80 for 100 8.5 x 11 sheets

Ivory cardstock
$17 for 250 8.5 x 11 sheets

$7.50 for 3 spools

Glue stick
~$4 for two sticks

White glue

$33 for 100

$15 for 25 8.5 x 11 sheets

Stamp of your choice

Total: $117.55

Although I went over my budget of $100 for the invitations, you have to factor in that I did not use all of the brown and ivory cardstock for the invitations. With the ivory cardstock, I am also making welcome notes for the OOT bags and thank you cards.

Overall, I am really happy with how the invitations turned out. They were time consuming but I started them early so I have time to spare before we send them out.

What makes you peeve?

I don't know why, but pet peeves have been on my mind this week. Maybe it's because I have the worst case of PMS and all of my pet peeves are coming out!

I won't lie, I have quite a few pet peeves. At the top of my list is:

1. People who are constantly late. It is really frustrating when a person says they will meet you at such and such time, but never show up for at least 15 minutes after said time. Maybe it's because I would rather be 15 minutes early than 15 minutes late. Being late stresses me out!

2. When you let another drive merge into a lane and they don't give you a wave. It takes two seconds to raise your hand....just do it.

3. People who chew with their mouth open. I have a major issue with the sounds that people make when they are eating and it just makes me cringe when someone chews with their mouth open.

4. People who say "what's good". I'm sorry, but how are you supposed to respond to that?!

Okay, I'll stop complaining and go back to eating chocolate and whining to Mr.D now!

Hope you have a great day!

{weekend recap}

This weekend was fabulous minus the weather. On Saturday afternoon, it started to snow and didn't stop until Sunday urns! Luckily the sun came out on Sunday and melted most of the snow away.

Friday night, was pretty low key. I got my new tires put on and then Mr.D and I hung out for the night. By Friday, we are both really tired and just enjoy a quiet night in! I also decided on Friday night that it would be a good idea to make my own thank you cards for the wedding with the scrap paper from the invitations. Crazy idea? Probably but it helps fill the time until I have to start packing and moving.

On Saturday, I had a few errands to run for house and wedding stuff. Mr.D had a rugby game, so I had the afternoon to myself. If you guessed I spent the time making more thank you cards, you'd be correct :) That night, we met up with BM K and her boyfriend at a concert. The band playing was punk-rock, so there were a lot of emo high school kids....made for good people watching!

Yesterday, I met up with fabulous Amber. It was fun to meet a blogger in person and definitely not as scary as I thought it would be! Amber was fun to chat with and she was so excited for her trip! (made me wish I was going away haha). After coffee with Amber, I spent the afternoon making more thank you cards (I swear I do have a life...or did at one point!). I've made close to 60 already, so I'm on my way.

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

ps- Thanks for taking the time out to meet with me again Amber!

{ happy friday }

Happy Friday everyone! So glad that the weekend is here, although it's going to be another busy one. Today, I have to drop my car off on my lunch to hopefully get my new (expensive!!) tires put on. On Saturday we are going to a concert with BM K and her boyfriend. On Sunday, I am hopefully meeting up with the fabulous Amber before she leaves on her exciting trip to Europe! I'm excited, but nervous to meet her as I have never meet any bloggers in real life before.

This week I was spoiled at work by my co-workers as it was administrative week. They sent us a gorgeous bunch of flowers! Nothing beats fresh flowers to stare at all day.

Ps- where has April gone?!

What are you up to this weekend? Hope you have a great weekend!

It's official!

Last night, Mr.D and I went to waive all of our conditions and sign the paperwork to officially make the house ours...scary! There is still a lot left to do...get house insurance, see the lawyer, etc, but I can't wait to move in and make it ours.

I already have a few projects in mind that I want to do to the house. Well, maybe after the wedding! Not sure how much more stress I could handle before the wedding haha.

I love, love, love this headboard:

Hope you have a great day!

{wedding wednesday} DIY invitations

This week is all about the invitations! The invitations have taken me a lot of time, sweat and tears to get done! In the end, I am so happy with how they turned out.

For the sizing of the outer portion and for the inserts, I used this guide found here. The only changes I made were to not include a map and to add the extra insert for the registry information. Next week, I will do full breakdown of costs.

The envelopes with the labels

The front view of the envelopes

What the guests will see when they take the invitations out of the envelope

The invitation- sorry that I had to blur out our information

How do you think they turned out?

You be the judge

I had a busy night last to buy an exciting pair of tires for my car! Don't lie, you know you are jealous!

I thought I'd share an interesting link with you. Not sure if you know or not, but Vancouver's real estate market is INSANE! The following link is called "crack shack or mansion" where you have to guess if the house pictured is a crack shack or a mansion. Just wait until you see the prices!

Hope you have a great day!

{weekend recap}

This weekend was fabulous! Busy but fabulous. The weather has finally warmed up and it felt like summer out, which I wouldn't trade for snow anyday.

On Friday, we were pretty lame and just hung out at home. I was working on cutting out all of the pieces for the invitations, so that took up most of the night.

On Saturday, Mr.D's parents came to visit in the afternoon. We took them for a drive by of our new house...wish we could have showed them the inside, but less than a month until they can! We had an amazing dinner that night...Mr.D's parent's bought beef tenderloin steaks from Costco so we grilled them up on the BBQ...they were so tender and just melted in your mouth! BBQ'ing is definitely one of the best things about summer. Mr.D's mom also told me this weekend and her and my future sister in law will be throwing me a bridal shower. I told her that I didn't need one, but she insisted as she wants to throw one. So lucky to have great in-laws!

Yesterday, Mr.D's parents left early in the morning, so Mr.D and I headed out to go couch shopping. For the new place, we needed a couch for the basement, a couch or love seat for the upstairs living room and also a chair. We found a great deal on a sectional for the basement and a love seat for the living room. It's getting delivered on move in day, and I can't wait! I also went to visit BM K because she wasn't feeling well. She just moved into her new place last weekend, so I borrowed some of her moving boxes.

Another weekend went by too fast :( I'm just happy because I've almost got the invitations finished, so we will be sending those out in the next few weeks.

How was your weekend?

[my grandma and my mom]

I am feeling a little lame today and don't have anything to say. Yesterday was a very stressful day, so hopefully it only gets better from here.

I hope you have a great weekend!

"it's the kitties birthday"

Okay, before I explain exactly what I mean by the title, I have to explain the background on my co-worker. We'll call her Sally for the sake of this story. Sally is a nice lady though is a little anti-social, has grown children and lives alone with her cats. Every day at lunch Sally goes home to feed her cats and never misses a day doing so.

The other day at work, another one of my co-workers asked Sally to join her at a lecture where a health minister was speaking. Without hesitating Sally replied that she couldn't go because it was her cats birthday. Dead serious!! I don't mean to knock my co-worker and how she treats her cats, but really?! I'm all for having parties for your animals if that's your thing, but it was just so strange!!

Hope you have a great day!

{wedding wednesday}

Four months until the wedding and one month until we move into our new house!! Four months seems like so much time, but I know that it is going to fly like this past week has

This week, we have been trying to find a marriage commissioner. Because neither Mr.D or I are religious and are getting married at our venue, we wanted to go with a marriage commissioner. We were hoping to use a lady that we know through family friends, but unfortunately she has failed to respond to our last few emails over the past two months. So that has left us looking for another marriage commissioner.

We sent out at least 15 emails and have already received a lot of responses! I never realized how expensive some of them are. We got prices that range from $250 to $350 plus a $100 fee for the rehearsal!! Needless to say, it's been easy to narrow down our choices by price. I just can't justify spending that much for less than 30 minute ceremony.

This week I also finished typing up all of the addresses for the invitations and am going to print them shortly. I have also been working on finishing to assemble the invitations, which I will be very happy when they are done!

Sorry if this post is jumbled and all over the place, my brain is going a million miles per minute thinking of wedding and house stuff that has to be done and organized!

Have a great day!

Excitement all around!

As I mentioned yesterday, Mr.D and I put in an offer on our first house and it was accepted late Sunday night. We are both beyond excited to move into our own place. Lisa commented yesterday that it happened very quickly and she is very right! Basically in a two week time frame, we were: pre-approved for a mortgage, found a realtor, saw close to 20 houses, put an offer in and had our offer accepted! I guess you could say that we didn't waste any time at all.

Mr.D and I wondered before beginning to search for a house if we would know whether or not a particular house would be 'the one' and I definitely think you do. The house we chose, both times we viewed it, we struggled to point out negative things about it whereas with other homes we found alot of negatives. I had a hard time falling asleep last night with all of the excitement and thoughts of upcoming stuff to do.

We have the house inspection tomorrow night, so fingers crossed that everything goes well! Okay, enough about house talk until we move in I promise!

PS- has anyone been watching Jamie Oliver's show The Food Revolution? I love it!

Hope you are having a great day!

{weekend recap}

This weekend was very busy and very exciting! On Friday night, we went to my bridesmaid K's new condo that she was moving into this past weekend. She was so excited to have a place to call her own. After the visit, we went out for dinner with K and her boyfriend. We also have such a great time with them as they are fun to be around.

On Saturday, we went for our second round of house hunting. We started at 10am and saw 10 houses. We saw some nice houses, some okay houses and some down right ugly houses! I am sorry to the person who owns the ugly one, but baby blue walls and baby blue carpet everywhere just doesn't cut it when you are asking $450,000 for your house! I wish I could show you a picture of how bad it was! We also saw a foreclosure, and I think the people were very angry when they moved out as almost every wall had a huge hole in it. That night, we hung out as we were tired from house's a lot of work! We watched the movie 'The Lovely Bones', which I loved the book version. The movie was different but still pretty good.

On Sunday, we went house hunting again. We were taking a second tour of a house we had seen earlier in the week and another house that was comparable. To make the story short, we put an offer in on the house we were touring for the second time. After some going back and forth over the price with the sellers, they accepted our offer!!! We still have to have a home inspection later this week on it, but the house was built in 2004 so there shouldn't be anything major with it. Our move in date is May 14th, so we are very excited!! I can't wait to show you pictures once everything has gone through for sure.

OMG, we bought a house! Mr.D and I are both very excited to have our own house and something to call our own. We have the house and it may be pretty empty when we move in, but hey, it's ours!

April showers bring.....snow?

Last time I checked, April showers were supposed to bring May flowers, but apparently mother nature missed the memo in my neck of the woods! Yesterday was sunny all day and then the clouds rolled in and began to snow! Boo hiss.

Here's the wonderful winter wonderland we were in:

I would love to trade this for sunny, blue sky weather if anyone is up for it! :)

This weekend we are going house hunting again and hoping to get the invitations done so we can print them in a few weeks.

What do you have planned for the weekend? Hope you have a great weekend!

Busy, busy, busy!

Between work, wedding related stuff and house hunting this past week and bit have seemed really busy!

On the wedding front, I found out on Monday that the make up artist I had booked had to bail for my wedding :( . It was a little upsetting to find that out, but better than a month before the wedding. Luckily he recommended someone else, so I am just waiting for her to get back to me with prices. Fingers crossed that she isn't really expensive!

Last night we met with our realtor who took us through a bunch of houses. It's exciting to begin looking, but nervous as the real estate market seems to be moving fast here. We saw a few different lay outs last night, so that gave us an idea of what we want. We are going to look at a bunch more on Saturday, so I am excited. We saw one that we really liked, but it was on a busier road, which wasn't ideal.

So in a condensed version, there's my life right now! Haha. It might not seem like a lot, but it just feels like I am juggling a few balls in the air right now. I'm sure it will pass shortly. I'm done whinning, I promise!!

{wedding wednesday} jewellery

This {wedding wednesday} is all about my 'something old'. When my mom came out to visit two weeks ago, she brought along a bracelet that was her mother's. I had never seen it before, but when I saw it, I knew it was the perfect addition to my wedding jewellery. I knew that I didn't want something very big or "loud" as my dress is already quite sparkly.

Here is the bracelet:

In other wedding news, we booked our flights to San Francisco for our 'mini-moon' as I like to call it. Westjet had an amazing seat sale on today, so our flight to San Fran was $71.99+tax and return was $91.99!! Such a great deal. We leave the Tuesday after the wedding until the Saturday. It will great to get away and relax for a few days after the wedding. We haven't booked our hotels yet, so if you have any recommendations of where to stay or things to do, please send them my way :)

{weekend recap}

Happy belated Easter everyone! We had a busy, but fun Easter weekend.

On Friday, Mr.D and I hung out and didn't do much all day. We were both wanting a relaxing day and we got it :) I convinced Mr.D to go for a walk because it was gorgeous out, and we ended up walking close to 10k. We found some new path ways that went along the river, which was gorgeous.

On Saturday, we headed to Mr.D's hometown to spend the weekend with his brother, wife and our niece. On Saturday night, Mr.D and his brother went out to see a movie, so I hung out with my SIL and her sister's for a girls night. We watched Did You Hear About the Morgan's? It definitely had potential, but fell very flat!

On Sunday, we went back over to Mr.D's brother's house for Easter dinner. Mr.D's parent's were out of town, so it was my SIL's family, but it was still a lot of fun. It was good to spend time with them again and see our niece, who has grown so much!

Niece M was a drool machine this weekend. Still so cute!

Niece M and I

Mr.D and M. Haha she had her grumpy face on!

Sadly, I have to go back to work after a great four day weekend :( Haha, I really shouldn't be complaining. I also ate wayyy too much chocolate this weekend.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Changes to come

There are going to be many changes coming into our lives in the next little while. Besides getting married in August, Mr.D and I found out last night that we are pre-approved for a mortgage. This is of course a good thing, but it means we will have a house to call our own and a mortgage.

I am excited to begin the process of house hunting and hopefully moving in the next couple of months. But at the same time, change scares me. I think it is because I love to have a plan and right now, I have no idea if we will be in a new house in a month, two months, etc. Either way, I think these changes will be a good thing for Mr.D and I.

Speaking of change, do you like the changes I made to the blog and the layout? I was playing around with it last night and still trying to learn how to use blogger. Do you think there is anything I should change with it? Colours, content, etc?

Do you like change? Or does it make you nervous like me?
