You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers {part two}

Sorry about the no post yesterday. I was dead tired when we got home on Sunday and I had zero motivation to blog. I’m back at it today though!

Last week, I started to answer your questions that you had asked me earlier in the week. Today, I’ll be answering the restSmile

1. Cafe Moka asked: “are you a shopaholic"?”
I would have to say no. Ever since we bought our house, got married and got a puppy, I’ve been really good with how I spend my money. Of course I will buy clothes as I need them, but I definitely don’t go shopping every week anymore.

2. Amber asked: “what is the one thing that Mr.D and I disagree on?”
We have pretty much the same way of thinking about things except for how many kids we will have. I want three while Mr.D wants two. I keep trying to bribe him or ask him what happens if we have two girls…I know he’ll want to try for a boy and I’ll get my third child Smile

3.  Amber asked: “how has marriage changed our relationship?”
A lot of people have asked us that and I really don’t think that it has changed much at all. We lived together for almost two years before we were married, so we had the responsibilities all sorted out.  I’d be nervous if things started to really change after we were married!

4. Brittany asked: “how many puppy names did you have picked out before deciding on Harley? Was it hard to choose?”
We actually didn’t have many names picked out for our future dog. We were trying to come up with some and we failed miserably! The top ones were Harley or Dexter. He’s definitely a Harley Smile

5. Brittany asked: “have any baby names picked out?”
Not really. We have a few that both of us like, but nothing set in stone that we HAVE to name our future child. Names are hard!

6. Kristin asked:" how did you meet your hubby"?”
Mr.D and I met in Mexico. You can read our story here.

7. Jessica asked: “what is my favorite food?”
Ok, a well known fact about me is that when I was younger I was the pickiest eater. So picky that my favorite foods were: Diet Coke, chips and chicken. Today my tastes have expanded, but I still love all three.

8. Jessica asked: “when/where/how you started your blog?”
I started my blog in November 2009 after I had been reading and not commenting on a lot of blogs for a long time.  One of the first blogs that I used to read on a daily basis was Lisa's blog.  I started my blog as a way to keep track of my wedding planning process and have enjoyed it ever since! I never thought I would have 46 people reading my little ol’ blog!

9. Kelly asked": “where was my favorite vacation ever?”
I would have to say either Cancun, Mexico because I met Mr.D on that trip and nothing beats the sun and sand! I also really enjoyed San Francisco and everything it had to offer!

Thanks for to everyone for asking the questions. I had fun answering them!

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! Hope my American readers had a great Thanksgiving and that you are doing some Black Friday shopping! I wish we had great deals like that in Canada Sad smile

This weekend, we are:

  • heading to Mr.D’s parent’s house. We haven’t seen them since October, so it will be great to catch up. And of course they can’t wait to meet Harley!
  • I am going to a bridal shower on Saturday for a friend
  • hanging out with friends we haven’t seen in a while

Hope you have a great weekend!

What are you up to for the weekend?

You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers {part one}

Earlier this week, I asked you guys to ask me anything you wanted to know about me.  Today I have your answers Smile

1. Lisa asked: “what is my favorite holiday?”
I don’t think that I have a favorite holiday. I love Christmas as we get to spend time with our family, who we don’t get to see a lot. I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day as it’s overrated, but we did get engaged on Valentine’s Day.

2. Lisa asked: “what is my favorite store to shop at?”
If I am shopping in Canada, I like Old Navy, the Gap, Suzy Shier, Smart Set, Forever 21. Canada is definitely lacking in good stores! If I were able to shop in the States, it would definitely be Target. Love that store!

3. Alison asked: “what is my favorite adult drink?”
I’m not a huge drinker, but if I were to have a drink, it would be a vodka seven with a slice of lime. Love it!  Is it strange that I’ve never had a beer or glass of wine? I’ve tried both, but just can’t do the taste of either.

4. Alison asked: “what is my favorite drink at Starbucks?”
Another weird thing about me is that I don’t enjoy tea or coffee, so I don’t go to Starbucks often. If I were to have something at Starbucks, it would be a smoothie or their iced tea.

5. Cafe Moka asked: “do I prefer Ontario or Alberta?”
I like both places as each represent something I love in my life. I grew up in Ontario, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.  I grew up in a really small town and love going back to visit, but I can’t picture myself living there. Maybe if we had kids as it would be a great place to raise kids. I like Alberta because I’ve made a life here with Mr.D, but I wish we were closer to both of our families. Nothing beats being able to see the mountains from our house, but I also miss being close to my family.

6. Cafe Moka  and Amber asked: “what do you do for a living?”
I currently work for a union as a labour relations assistant. I basically do the administrative work if a member wanted to file a grievance. Once the grievance is filed, I ensure timelines are in order and set up resolution meetings.  I really enjoy it because it challenges me at times, my co-workers are great and there is opportunity to move within my ‘company’.

7. Cafe Moka and Amber asked: “what was my major in university?”
I went to McMaster University in Hamilton and loved it. While there, I got my Bachelor of Arts in Labour Studies, which is about unions, so it relates directly to the job that I am doing now. I was frustrated after university because all of the jobs that I was applying for they said that I either didn’t have enough experience or I was too qualified for the positions.

8. Cafe Moka asked: “can you tell us your engagement story?”
I don’t know if I have ever told our engagement story, but it’s nothing outlandish but it’s us. For a few months before Mr.D proposed, I had been asking him constantly when we were going to be getting married. He always brushed it off saying he’ll let me know when he’s ready. Little did I know that a few months prior, he had asked my dad for his permission when he was out for a visit. I also had NO idea that Mr.D had already bought my ring and had also asked my mom. I love that he asked my parent’s for their permission as they mean so much to me.  On Valentine’s Day of 2009, Mr.D gave me a card and all it said in the card was “look up” as I was sitting on the couch. When I looked up, Mr.D was down on one knee with the ring in his hand. It was so sweet!

9. Cafe Moka asked: “who is my favorite writer?”
I don’t really have a favorite writer. I am pretty open about what books I read. Most of the time, I will read a book if someone suggested it to me. Not exciting I know!

10. Cafe Moka asked: “what country I would like to visit?”
There are a lot of places that I would like to visit! Let’s see: Australia, France, Greece, England…just to name a few! Mr.D and I are hoping to take a few weeks next summer to do some travelling. Fingers crossed it works out!

11. Cafe Moka asked: “did I have many boyfriends before dating my husband and have I ever had my heart broken?”
Definitely not! I am a pretty shy person, so I didn’t date a lot in high school. I think I might have had 3-4 boyfriends in high school lasting 4 months at the most! I had my first serious boyfriend in university, who definitely broke my heart. We got serious pretty fast and then he went to Afghanistan as he was in the army. When he returned on his break, he decided that he wanted to be with someone else. Yah, that hurt big time! But I’m glad that we didn’t work out because it meant that I was able to meet Mr.D and he’s perfect Smile

Ok, this post is getting on the long side, so I will be back next week with the rest of the answers. Thanks for asking me them!

{wedding wednesday} Reception

This week’s {wedding wednesday} is about our reception. Through the planning process, Mr.D and I knew that we wanted a low key, fun reception. Nothing too fancy or formal! I think the biggest compliment that we heard from our family and friends was that our wedding was so much fun as it was so relaxed. Exactly what we wanted Smile

I am going to let the pictures do the talking this week.

There was my older and younger brother’s MC’ing our reception and keeping the crowd laughing..l_b (472 of 641)

Overall, we had so much fun at our reception! It was definitely a memorable night and wouldn’t have changed anything about it!

Next week is about the other details from our wedding.

Happy Wednesday!

I've got nothing...

My brain is not working at all today and I’ve never done this before, so I thought I would do a Q&A. Ask me anything, anything at all.

Do you want to know my favourite food, when I had my first kiss, my shoe size? Feel free to ask me anything.

I’ll be back later this week with the answers

{weekend recap}

This weekend was super low key, and that was absolutely perfect Smile

On Friday, Harley and I went to the vet’s where he was the centre of attention yet again, haha. After the vet’s, we stopped by my work so my co-workers could meet him and of course he got lots of attention there as well! Later in the day, Mr.D and I ran some errands and started Christmas shopping. Feels good to get some things crossed off my list!

On Saturday we didn’t do much either. Went to the mall in the morning to do some more Christmas shopping before it got crazy! It was freezing this weekend, so I was more than happy to hang out at home bundled up in front of the fire!

On Sunday, we spent the morning cleaning the house and then in the afternoon, Alison and Cruz came over for a puppy play date.  I think it’s safe to say that Cruz and Harley had fun together. Alison and Cruz were sweethearts, and brought a present over for Harley. Alison- Harley says thank you Smile

After they left, Harley was fast asleep literally ten minutes after they left. It was hilarious!

Harley all tuckered out after the puppy play date with Cruz. He loves his new toy!

This weekend I also started to work on our Christmas cards. I had tonne of cardstock left over from the wedding, so I decided to make our own Christmas cards. Here’s a preview of our cards:

Happy Monday everyone!

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you had a great week and didn’t get the snow that we’ve been getting here. Not fun at all!

Today, Harley and I are making a trip to the vet and then stopping by my work to meet everyone.  And probably a walk or two mixed in there Smile

Other than that, we have nothing planned for this weekend. Well besides staying warm as it’s supposed to be between –12 to –20C here all weekend! Burr, is all I have to say! I am also hoping to get some Christmas shopping done, so I can send it off to my family in Ontario. And I might start working on our Christmas cards, as November is almost over (crazy!).

I hope you have a great weekend!

What do you have planned for the weekend? Anything exciting?

{what i’m loving}

Happy Thursday everyone! As always, I am following Jamie's {what i’m loving} posts, but as I do my wedding recaps on Wednesday, I am doing it on Thursday. Make sure you check out her fun blog!

{one} That today is my Friday! My work offers us to work a compressed work week, which allows us to have every third Friday off. It is so nice to have the day off to get stuff done or go to appointments.

{two} My puppy Harley. I can’t believe that we’ve had him for a week already! Every night I say to Mr.D that I think he’s getting bigger already. I love being able to pick him up and have puppy cuddles as I call them with him.
Of course I had to include a couple of pictures!

{three} My husband. I had a few rough nights adjusting to having Harley in our house on the weekend and he was so supportive and loving as I shed some tears.  He is definitely my rock and I love him for it! Not to mention he’s kind of cute Smile

{wedding wednesday} reception details

This week’s {wedding wednesday} is all about the little details that made our reception ours. The biggest thing that I wanted for our wedding, was the little details and to do a lot of the projects myself.

From the get go of wedding planning, Mr.D and I knew that we didn’t want to have a wedding cake. Both of us LOVE popcorn, so it was easy for us to come up with the idea of having a popcorn buffet. It was a huge hit!

For the popcorn bags, I stamped the word ‘enjoy’ onto them to dress them up.

Another super easy and quick project!l_b (544 of 641)

Next up is our table numbers. I knew for our table numbers, we didn’t want something traditional and wanted to incorporate “us” into them. I came up with the idea of using the elements from the periodic table, which incorporated Mr.D’s job.

Another DIY project was the cocktail napkins that I embossed. You can see the tutorial here. An easy project, but a little time consuming.

Instead of doing a seating plan, I decided to make escort cards with everyone’s name on them and their table number. From there, we let everyone figure out where at the table they wanted to sit. Less stress on me!

Our programs were actually a last minute decision. I think I designed them and put them together the weekend before the wedding! They included information about the ceremony, our families, the wedding party and the reception. The bin for the programs, I ‘borrowed’ from work and spray painted it white. Super easy and super cheap!

I loved our card box because my dad hand made it. It definitely added a personal and loving touch! The wooden letters that spelt out the word ‘cards’ I bought from Michaels and painted green. Another easy and cheap DIY project!

My dad even carved our names into the box!
