An announcement…part two

Ok, I promise for real this time that I am not pregnant. Pinkie swear Smile Earlier this week, I mentioned that I had some exciting news. Well, here it is:

His name is Harley and he is a lab mixed with a german short haired pointer. He’s a bundle of energy! We picked him up yesterday and it’s been an exciting night in this house hold. He had a few pee incidents in the house, but we are hopefully getting better. I’m sure you will be seeing lots of his face around my blog now Smile

For anyone who has a dog, how did you train it? Did you crate train or let the pup have the run of the house? How did you train the dog not to pee in the house?

  1. He is so cute!!! I Love your new puppy!

  2. Congrats!! He is adorable!! I have 2 Golden Retrievers and they are trained to the T. I have done it both ways. I didn't crate them until they started chewing things, but I gave them access to only 1 room when we left the house. Leave them with lots of toys! With obediance, start young and make it fun! We started with ours right away, with simple commands of sit, stay, come, etc. As they got older and started to "test" us, we became mroe strict. Now we have a 1 year old and a 2 year old that are calm and great!!

  3. OOOOOhhhHHHH!!!! CUTE cute cute!! I love puppies! Big congrats!

When I had dogs when I was little, we crate trained them, and once they were old enough we took them to puppy classes, which is something that I highly suggest to socialize him!

Good luck! I can't wait to see more of little Harley!

  4. Oh my gosh, he is so cute! Love his eyes!! Congrats on being puppy owners! I have never had a dog so I have no recommendations unfortunately...

  5. Omg he is SO FREAKING CUTE! AHHHH, this is such an exciting announcement!! I LOVE DOGS! I can't wait to meet him in May, though I'm sure he'll be ginormous by then ;)

My mom has a golden lab and when he was a puppy she would take him outside ALL THE TIME. Like even if he just whined A LITTLE she would quickly take him outside. That taught him that he just had to whine if he wanted out and had to pee. Now that he's full grown and a couple years old he just scratches at the door to get let outside.

It's definitely not without a few accidents when their puppies though. Hopefully he's mostly trained before it gets TOO cold out to be running him outside all the time!

  6. We definitely crate train! A dog will usually not pee in a confined area such as a crate and they actually get really attached to their crates or "space."
After you feed him he MUST go out within 10 to 20 minutes of eating and every hour after that. You praise them a lot then they go to the restroom outside and give them treats. You must catch them in the act of pottying inside and firmly let them no that is not okay!

My dog caught on in 2 days and will sit in front of the door when he needs to potty, he will NEVER go in his crate and he loves his crate, he will even sleep in there when we are home and relaxing.

Your pup is so cute! Good luck, he looks like a good boy!

  7. OMG I am so coming over this weekend for meet Harley! Cruz will love him!!!
We crated Cruz in her kennel at night since day 1. It broke my hear when she cried all night for weeks. Sorry true story. But she never peed in her kennel and she loves her kennel (still we put her there to sleep). It was never a punishment to go in there either.
If she peed in the house we would take her outside immediately, even mid stream if we could! ha ha. make sure you take him outside, lots! And like 10 min after eating or drinking for sure.
Email me if you have any questions!
And we must make a plan to come visit! :) In the spring we'll have 2 pups to run with! :)

  8. Oh my gosh, SOOOO cute!!!

Max was crate trained in the beginning, but now he has full reign over the house. That took a long time, though. I know some people frown on it, but I always spanked him for bathroom accidents. He quickly learned where to go! And like others are saying, take him out often!! And take him out the second you catch him mid-accident.

    He's SOOO cute!!!

  9. So flippin' cute!!

We did not crate train and our dogs have free reign of our house. I would definitely take him out often and when you're not home keep him confined to one area.

Reward him when he goes to the bathroom outside. We used puppy pads when we were training and kept them confined at night until they could hold it all night.

It didn't take long for our dogs to catch on so hopefully Harley will be a fast learner!

  10. I left you an award on my blog. :)

  11. Eeeek! Look at his blue blue eyes!!! I can't wait to meet him!

  12. OMG, you read my blog, you've seen my obsession with my dog, Harley is ADORABLE!!! GAA!!! I want to smush his wittle face.
