{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! (if Monday’s can be happy?!). This weekend was a cold, snowy, lazy weekend, which was perfect.

On Friday night, we ran out to Sport Chek as I was in desperate need of a new sports bra and work out tanks. Luckily I found both Smile  After that, we went out for dinner to Joey’s. Love it there! Other than that, we hung out and went to bed earlier as Mr.D was getting up at 5:45am the next morning to go skiing.

On Saturday, Mr.D left bright and early to go skiing with some co-workers, so it was Harley and I for the weekend.
He’s pretty cute and doesn’t talk back, so he wasn’t too bad to spend the weekend with. In the morning, I went to the gym and ran 10k! I did 7k on the treadmill and then 3k around the track…and it wasn’t too bad. Now I just have to work on getting those run distances up there. In the afternoon, my friend K came over and we just hung out and got caught up. I haven’ t seen her since early December which was way too long! We ended up going out for dinner to Earl’s as neither of us wanted to cook. It was a great night catching up and having girl talk!

Yesterday I went to the gym again and ran on the treadmill and then did this medicine ball workout. It was from Men’s Health magazine, but the moves were great and challenged me. I think I might have to buy a medicine ball for after my gym membership expires. In the afternoon, I took Harley for a walk and made two loaves of banana bread (recipe coming later this week). Super low key weekend, but it was great Smile

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone!! It’s the weekend and this girl is happy about that Smile

Yesterday at work I found out some really good news that definitely made my day and week! I will be filling you in on the good news next week.

We have no major plans this weekend as Mr.D is going skiing with some friends from work. I will be hanging out at home with Harley, going to the gym, maybe doing some projects and watching some girly movies. Sounds perfect to me Smile I am hoping the warm weather stays around and that the snow they are forecasting doesn’t come.

Happy weekend everyone!

What do you have planned for your weekend?

Thursday, January 27, 2011

I was struggling to come up with something to post about for today last night, so I thought let’s talk about all of the random things that pop up in my mind {get your mind out of the gutters you dirty peopleWinking smile}

When we were at Costco last week, I picked up a few new things to try.

Kirkland dried berries and fruit
I think the bag was about $8-9, but oh my god it is so delicious and not terribly bad for you either! If it wasn’t so expensive, I would be running out to buy more of it!

Food Should Taste This Good Multigrain Chips
These chips are apparently vegan and gluten free, which doesn’t stop them from being so delicious! I think they were on sale for $5 and oh so worth it. Definitely going back this weekend to get some more! I love it when you buy a new product and love it and don’t feel like you just wasted your money.

As you can tell, I have been playing around with my blog lay out. What do you think? Should I keep it or keep playing around with it? I added tabs for: about me, DIY, wedding and recipes. Check them out Smile. I can’t decide if I like the font in my header…should I keep it or use a font that is script like? As you can tell I am terrible with decisions!

I took Harley to the vet on Monday and they weighed him…..any guesses to how much he weighs? Let me tell you….16.6kg or about 35 pounds!! Dear sweet Harley you are not even 5 months yet…mom is scared about how big you are going to get! Oh and apparently Harley likes lots of attention from the girls at the vets that it makes him pee in excitement….ALOT! Let’s just say that I was a little embarrassed by the 5th time! Good thing he’s cute and they didn’t seem to mind.

Ok enough of my rambling, happy Thursday everyone!

{what i’m loving}

I can’t believe that it’s Wednesday already! Well I guess having Monday off is helping the situation as well Smile

This week, I am linking up with Jamie’s fun {what i’m loving} Wednesday’s. Make sure you check out her blog!

This week, I am loving:

{one} The weather! It has been gorgeous here since late last week and we are apparently supposed to have temperatures around +10C on Thursday which is amazing! Thank you Calgary for your Chinooks! Mother Nature, how about we just skip over the rain/snow this weekend and take us right into spring? I’d love you forever for it!

{two} These tank tops from Lululemon:
LW1717S_snorkel_blue_black_l (1)
I will take any of the tank tops in any colour in my size please Smile

{three} New recipes. I don’t know about you, but we get sick of eating the same meals over and over again. Mr.D and I both like trying out new recipes and we have found some definite keepers lately! Last night, we made salmon with pesto and spinach wrapped in puff pastry. So easy and so delicious (and this is coming from not a big fish lover!) If you have tried a new recipe lately, do send it my way Smile

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Ignore the mess :)

I am playing around with a new lay out and new don't mind the mess of my blog while I keep working on it :)

{weekend recap}

Happy Tuesday everyone! This weekend with my mom was great, but it went by too fast! Can someone please invent a machine to slow time down? Pretty please Smile

On Friday night, Mr.D and I ran a few errands and then went to pick up my mom from the airport. We spent the night catching up and that’s about it.

On Saturday, we went to Cross Iron Mills to do some shopping.  After shopping, we spent the afternoon hanging out and my mom made us a delicious dinner of pad thai. Nothing quite beats your mom’s cooking! We went to see the movie True Grit later that night…it was pretty good. I really liked the actresses who played the young girl…she was great!

On Sunday, I took my mom to get a pedicure as a belated Christmas present. We went to the Newbury Spa which is downtown and they did a fabulous job! It was honestly the best pedicure I’ve had in a while!  After pedicures, we went out for lunch and then spent the afternoon hanging out. IMG_1225
My silly mom and I

I wish that my mom lived closer and that I could see more often. This weekend went by too fast and I miss spending time with her.

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! Tonight I am off to pick my mom off at the airport and I am so excited to see her! We don't have any definite plans for this weekend besides shopping and getting pedicures.

I probably won't be posting on Monday, so I will be back on Tuesday with a recap of my weekend. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

He totally spoils me…

The other week, I told you about a surprise that Mr.D had gotten for me.  To explain why it was so special, I need to tell you a little back story about it. For Christmas, Mr.D and I decided that we were not going to get each other presents as we had just bought Harley and he’s a present in himself, haha. On Christmas Eve, Mr.D kept asking me if I had bought him something for Christmas as he didn’t want to be embarrassed that he didn’t get me something on Christmas morning. I kept telling him no, I didn’t get you anything, which he didn’t believe. So Christmas comes and goes and neither of us had bought each other anything as promised.

A couple days after Christmas we returned home from his parent’s house. I crawled into bed, and there was a long box sitting underneath the covers, which I for some reason thought it was a remote even though we don’t have a TV in our room. I look closer at the box and realize that it’s from a jewellery store. I think at this point I was so confused and kept asking Mr.D what it was, and he pretended to know nothing. I open up the box and inside was a beautiful diamond bracelet. It took me by surprise and I definitely shed a few tears!

I kept asking Mr.D why he bought and all he would say is that I deserve it…such a wonderful surprise by my sneaky husband! I gave him shit (after kissing him of course!) that he bought something even though we said we were not going to.

I was trying to take a picture of it last night once it was dark, so these pictures are not the greatest. But I promise it’s pretty in real life Smile

Mr.D, if you happen to be reading this today, I love you and thank you for being such a sweet, loving husband!

Has your husband or boyfriend ever spoiled and surprised you?

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! Just think, after today there is only two more days and the week is over Smile

This week, I am loving:

{one} My husband. I have been going to the gym on Tuesday and Thursday’s after work, which means I don’t get home until after 6pm. Mr.D has been taking charge of making dinner and I definitely appreciate it.  Nothing better than coming home to dinner already made Smile

{two} That my mom is coming in less than three days! I am so excited to spend the weekend together as I don’t get to see her nearly enough!

{three} Trashy tv shows. I won’t lie, I love shows that are trashy…the more trashy they are, the better they are Smile Lots of talk around the blogsphere about Michelle on The Bachelor…..I definitely think she’s either an actress or she is 100% crazy! Has anyone else been watching the new season Teen Mom? Such a bad show, but can’t help but watch the drama go down.

Hope you have a great Wednesday everyone and make sure you check out Jamie's fabulous blog!

An open letter (or two)

Dear Harley,

I love you and your sweet little face, but why do you insist on getting up at ridiculous o'clock in the morning and refuse to go back to sleep?! Your mom really loves her sleep and would appreciate it if you start sleeping right until 6:30am, which is when her alarm goes off. You will be rewarded with many new toys and even more love if you do this :)

Your tired mother

Dear half marathon,

I haven't even started my official training plan and you are already scaring me! There are so many unknowns about you that I have no idea what to expect. Please, please be nice to me as I promise to train hard and run my little heart out.

Anxious and nervous first time halfer

Dear Calgary weather,

Please bring this Chinook anytime soon, as this girl is sick of -20C weather. Actually while you are at it, bring spring along with you and make sure it stays around for a while. It would be nice to enjoy mother nature again and to run outside.

A sick of winter girl

Dear followers,

Thank you for being so awesome! Your comments always make my day and I appreciate you reading this little ol' blog of mine.

This post was inspired by Amber and this post. Make sure you check her out if you haven't read her blog before :)

{weekend recap}

This weekend was fabulous! It included: time with Mr.D & Harley, time with new friends and relaxation.

On Friday night, it was a pretty low key night. Mr.D had a late meeting, so Harley and I went for a walk. When he got home, we headed out the mall to pick up my surprise from Mr.D. I’ll show you later this week Smile

On Saturday morning, I went to the gym. Getting the pass to the YMCA has been definitely worth it for me. The weather here is way too cold to do anything outside lately, so it’s been nice to run the track or treadmill. Spend the rest of the day cleaning the house and getting stuff ready for the puppy/dinner date. Alison and Justin and Rachel and John with their puppies came over later in the afternoon. We had a great night of chatting away while the puppies played and the boys watched football. I can’t wait to do it again girls Smile

The girls

Yesterday, was pretty low key and relaxing again.  I went to the gym in the morning and then had to pick up some wedding related stuff for my friend T.  That was pretty much the extent of my day and it was fabulous!

How was your weekend? What did you do?

{happy friday}

First, happy Friday everyone! Since I didn’t have any days off this week due to snow storms I am ready for Friday and the weekend.

Second, thank you to everyone for your comments yesterday on my post regarding jealousy. There were a few comments that put things into perspective for me and made me think about the subject in a different way. I am always scared to put it out there for others to read about the flaws that I have, but you guys are amazing!

Third, on Thursday night we tried this recipe for asian-style turkey meatballs. The only thing that I changed about the recipe was that I used ground chicken and less hot pepper sauce. They were so delicious and so simple to make! It’s a definite keeper for our menu.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and that they are warmer than Calgary is right now….-20C with wind chills down to –30….not fun at all!

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Let’s be honest..

I am usually a pretty happy go lucky on my blog, but I want to get real for a second (ok maybe a minute or two).  I know that what I am about to talk is something that everyone has suffered from sometime in their life. What am I talking about? It’s….

This isn’t easy for me to talk about because it has caused some issues in my relationships, but I think it’s important to discuss. I don’t know when or why it started, but whenever I would see a friend go on a trip, have something exciting happen to them, etc I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy. When these twinges come up, I think to myself, “why am I feeling so jealous and angry?” I have a great life, husband, house, job, etc so it’s not like I am lacking in my life. I have a job that allows me to have a nice house and to buy those “wants” that I have in life.  I have a husband and a puppy who love me unconditionally, but yet I still can’t get rid of those twinges of jealousy.

I love blogging and the friendships that it has allowed me to form, but there are definitely times where I see other bloggers that have 4x as many followers as I do, have major events happening in their lives, or run a faster 5k then me.  It is so hard to take that step back from thinking “why can’t I be that pretty or fast?” and realize that I shouldn’t be jealous as I have many things to make me happy in my life.

In terms of how it has affected my relationships, it has caused me to cause many stupid fights with Mr.D especially when we were dating long distance. When he would tell me that he is hanging out with so and so, I would be jealous and angry because I couldn’t hang out with Mr.D. Through our relationship, Mr.D has been fantastic at realizing when I start stupid fights like that it’s not because I am actually angry, but that I am jealous and can’t control those feelings.

Sorry for such a downer of a post, but I promise I will be back to my happy go lucky self tomorrow Smile

Do you ever get jealous? How do you deal with those feelings? Do you think jealousy is a bad thing?

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! We are half way through the weekSmile

This week I am loving:

{one} That my  mom is coming in just over a week! I haven’t seen her since the wedding in August and I miss spending time with her. We don’t have any plans yet, but I am taking us for pedicures as  belated Christmas gift.  I am just looking forward to spending time with her.

{two} Friend and puppy dates! This Saturday Alison and Rachel are coming over and I am excited to get all of us together. I’ve met both of them, but Alison and Rachel have never met in person, so it will be fun as we all know so much about each other through blogging.

{three} Harley. Although he was up at 2 and 3:30am the other night, I can’t stay mad at him when he’s so darn cute!
(don’t mind my no make up or messy hair do look!)

Hope you have a great Wednesday everyone!

{weekend recap}

This weekend was super low key and it was fabulous! On Friday night, Mr.D and I went out for dinner and then to Chapters. I had a few gift cards from work to spend, so I treated Mr.D to a book…I know, best wife ever Smile

On Saturday morning, I had the best sleep in in such a long time! Pretty sure I woke up at 10am and thought about going right back to sleep. We spent the day running some errands and then taking down all of the Christmas decorations. It’s just not as fun as putting them up that’s for sure.

Yesterday, Mr.D spent the day skiing with a co-worker while I hung out at home. That’s a lie, I dragged myself out into the cold (the weather took a total nose dive in temperature from last week..booSad smile) and went to check out the YMCA by our house. A co-worker had given me a free pass, so I thought I would check it out before I committed to joining each month. It is actually pretty nice in there and it is only about $60 each month and you can go month to month which is nice. I’m thinking I will go for January, February and March as it’s really cold here during those months, so I won’t be able to run outside.  In the afternoon, I made banana bread, cream of broccoli soup and dinner rolls ( I didn’t make mine vegan though). The dinner rolls are so easy and delicious!

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! Is it just me that when you work a 4 day week, how come it seems to go by so slow?! Let’s just say I am happy that it’s Friday Smile

We actually don’t have anything planned for this weekend. Well we do have to take down the Christmas tree and decorations….anyone care to do it for me?! I would also like to go see the movie Black Swan….I’ve heard good things about it and it’s a movie that both Mr.D and I both want to see (for once!).  Other than that, I am excited to relax and hang out around the house.

Hope you have a great weekend!

And just a couple pictures of cute Harley…

He falls asleep in the weirdest positions! Ps- his paws look HUGE in this picture!
Just hanging out with a little fuzz hanging from the mouth….from yet another toy that he destroyed!

I’m going to be a…..

My bridesmaid T got engaged to her long term boyfriend before Christmas and yesterday she asked me to be one of her bridesmaids. Of course I said yes! I am so excited to be  a part of her wedding and to help her plan it.

{what i’m loving}

This week, I am loving:

{one} Running! I went for my first run yesterday in a long time and it felt great! Sure a little slower than before, but it felt awesome to get out and get my legs moving again.

{two} The weather! This week’s weather has been fabulous for January in Alberta. We are talking above zero later in the week! Too bad it’s supposed to drop by the weekend, but I will take it while it’s here Smile

{three} New friends. In the past few weeks and months, I have been getting to know Alison and Rachel better, and I am thankful for their friendships. I am excited for both of them with their husbands and dogs to come over in a couple of weekends for dinner. Meeting new girls and forming friendships in a new city is hard!

{four} My husband. He is so caring and patient with me and I wouldn’t trade him for the world! He surprised me with a present after Christmas that I can’t wait to show you!

PS- make sure you check out Jamie's fabulous blog!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Goals, goals, goals

I have never been a person to make new years resolutions, but I do have some goals that I would like to accomplish or begin in 2011.

1. Run a 5k in under 28 minutes
-my personal record for this distance from 2010 was just over 28 minutes. With some speed training, I think I can do it.

2. Run a 10k in under 1 hour
- I have never run a 10k race, but have that distance on my own in just over an hour. I think it’s do-able Smile

3. Run a half marathon
-I am running my first half marathon in May and I am already nervous about it! I have no time goals for this race, I just want to run the whole thing and finish!

4.  Try a triathlon
-for some reason, it completely scares me! I think it’s the unknown of how the race will work. Fear can’t hold me back!

1. Travel
-Mr.D and I are hoping to take a trip this summer to Europe. I have never been and am so excited about it!

2. Finish decorating and hanging pictures in the house
-we’ve been living in our house since May 2010 and the wedding is now over, so I have no more excuses!

3. Try new foods
-I don’t have any particular foods, but anything that I have been too scared to try in the past. I am a pretty picky eater (but getting better!) so this will push me out of my comfort zone in a good way

4. Print out our wedding pictures
-I have printed ZERO pictures since we got our wedding pictures. This situation needs to be fixed!

1. Take time each day to slow down to appreciate the life that I have and Mr.D
-sometimes it feels like I am rushing through the day to exercise, make dinner, shower, work, clean, etc that I forget that I have a wonderful husband and life.

2. Go on more dates with Mr.D
edmonton 2 042 copy
- since getting married, buying a house and Harley, we haven’t really taken the time out to plan special date nights for each other.

Did you make any goals and new years resolutions for 2011? If so, what were they?

Monday, January 3, 2011

{weekend recap}

I can’t believe that my Christmas vacation is almost over already Sad smile Well it’s not quite over because I don’t have to go back to work until tomorrow unlike Mr.D!

Ever since we got back from Mr.D’s parent’s house, we have been pretty low key. Hanging around the house, taking Harley for walks, etc. For New Years eve, it was pretty much the same for us. We were thinking of going to a friend’s house, but decided that staying in and eating loads of appetizers was way more appealing. We ended up watching Monsters Inc (I had never seen it) and The Town, which was a pretty good movie.  Exciting night I know, but it was perfect.

We didn’t do much for the rest of the weekend except on Sunday, Alison and her cute puppy Cruz came over for a puppy play date. We both love how tired both dogs are after they are done playing and it gives us a chance to hang out and get to know each other better Smile Harley was pretty down and out for the rest of the day. In a couple of weeks, Alison and Rachel with their pups and husbands are coming over for dinner and a puppy play date. I am excited for everyone to get together!

On a completely random note, I need some help/advice. I ran out of the foundation that I had been using for a while and have had no luck finding it again. I bought another kind (I forget the brand) and it is not working as it’s causing me to break out more.  I have dry yet oily skin that is prone to breakouts….any one have any brand suggestions for me to try? I am desperate for a new foundation! Thanks!

If you are back at work today, hope you have a great day back! If not, enjoy your day off Smile
