{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! Back at it for another week…it’s my Friday off again this week, so I have a four day work week. Love it!

Not going to lie, this weekend was pretty lame on our part! Friday night was spent hanging out in the house because it was still super cold out. Oh and I got off work early because my car was done being fixed! So we went to pick that up, which was nice to finally have everything fixed and done with. We made pancakes for dinner, which were fabulous! I love a good pancake dinner now and then Smile

On Saturday I had an appointment in the morning and then went to the gym. I had the WORST run of my life so far, which made me quit after 3k.  Was not happy at all, but I guess you win some and you lose some. In the afternoon, we dropped Mr.D’s car off to the people that bought it and then had to run down to the dealership to get a part that they forgot to give us. We went out for an early dinner and then watched Love & Other Drugs. I wasn’t super impressed with the movie and the brother definitely saved the movie!

Yesterday,  was spent cleaning the house, running and taking Harley to the dog park. It’s amazing how fast a weekend goes when you really aren’t doing that much!

How was your weekend? What did you do?

{recipe friday}

Happy Friday everyone! This weekend we don’t have any plans at all. Hopefully the cold weather finally goes away and the gas prices don’t make a big jump like they are supposed to.

This week’s recipe is for the best chocolate chip cookies you will ever taste! I promise they will not fail to deliver on deliciousness. They might not be the healthiest, but a splurge is good Smile

Chocolate chip cookies

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375F.
Stir together flour, soda and salt in a small bowl. In another bowl and using an electric mixer, combine butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Beat in eggs one at a time. Blend in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake 8-10 minutes, until golden. Cool on cookie sheet for about 1 minute and then transfer to racks. Enjoy!

What are your plans for the weekend? Hope you have a great weekend!

What did I just do?

Back in October, I signed up for my first half marathon, which is in May. Then I signed up for two 10k' in March and one in April. I haven't even officially started my training plan for it yet, but I have already signed up for another half marathon. Crazy? Sometimes I think so!

The half that I signed up for is Melissa's Road Race which is in Banff in September. I've heard really good things about the race and am excited to run in the mountains! The nice thing about the race is that if need be, I could drop down to the 10k. But I am planning and determined to run the half.

Apparently my racing calendar is looking really sparse in June, July and August, so I have been looking at triathlons. There are two that I could do in July, which would give my body a break from training in between the two half marathons. Triathlons scare me as there are so many unknown elements about it to me, but I have always wanted to do one. And I figure I might as well get as many races in before we start trying for kids in a few years :)

What do you think? Am I crazy for signing up for another half marathon before I've run my first one? Should I sign up for the triathlon?

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! Love that we are half way through the week.

This week, I am loving:

{one} That my car is going into the body shop tomorrow! So excited to have it finally fixed and hopefully it’s a pain free process.  I will have my cute car back and it will finally stop looking ghetto! Haha.

{two} New books. I started reading The Pilot’s Wife after Lisa recommended it to me. Do you want to know something funny? When I checked the book out of the library, I thought to myself “man this book sounds really familiar”. When I was half way through the book, everything felt like I had read it before so I had the bright idea to look on my bookshelf and there was the same book! Haha I am such a blonde girl sometimes, but it’s a good thing that I don’t remember the ending of the book Smile

{three} My followers. You guys are all so sweet with your comments and for being excited along with me! Thank you for being so awesome Smile

Tuesday thoughts

So I said yesterday that I had some exciting news. Well do you remember last week when I mentioned that we had gone car browsing? Well, we ended up buying something that day! We were honestly just browsing and checking out the different SUV’s out there, but we found an amazing deal on a vehicle that we both really liked.

We ended up buying a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. It had everything we wanted with low km’s, so it was hard to pass up!

Here she is:

It is bigger than anything that I have ever driven, so it will take some getting used to. Now we just have to get my car fixed (hopefully this week or next) and sell Mr.D’s car. We had one couple come by last night, so fingers crossed for a sale today!

{weekend recap}

Happy Family Day to my Canadian readers and happy President’s day to my American readers Smile Either way, I hope you are enjoying your day off.

This weekend, my friend T (she was one of my bridesmaid’s) and her boyfriend S came into town. We haven’t really seen them since they got engaged, so it was great to finally be able to spend time with them. They got into town later on Friday night, so we went out for dinner to catch up.

On Saturday, the boys went skiing so T and I went shopping. What any two girls would do Winking smile We were looking for potential bridesmaid dresses for her upcoming wedding.
Here are some of the options:

We both loved the style of the yellow dress, but would order it in black. Too bad that it was $300, which is more than she is wanting us to spend. We both loved it though! Does anyone know where we could order a similar dress for less?

After the bridal store, we went to the mall to look for other potential options but fell short. Nothing was catching either of our eyes. The boys didn’t get home until after dinner, so we hung out and watched Say Yes to the Dress and Four Weddings. Love both of those shows!

On Sunday, we made breakfast for everyone and then S & T headed home. I ran some errands and then went to the gym and ran 10k…it took me about 55 minutes with some walking breaks in there, so I was super happy! I have my first 10k at the beginning of March, so I am hoping I can take a minute or two off that time.

We don’t have much planned for our day off today, but I do have some exciting news which I will post about tomorrow

What are you doing with your day off? How was your weekend?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! How was your week? Are you ready for the weekend like I am?!

This weekend, we have friends come into town. The boys are going skiing tomorrow while the girls go to the gym and shop.  Of course we are shopping Smile We both have Monday off because of Family Day, which is great!

This weeks recipe is salmon wrapped in puff pastry with spinach and pesto. When my mom was out here last month, she gave me the idea for this meal and I must say that it is super easy!

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
  • frozen spinach
  • jarred pesto
  • salmon fillet
  • seasoning of your choice

  1. Preheat oven to 375F
  2. Roll out the puff pastry with a rolling pin to your desired thickness (we roll it out thinner so it all cooks throughly)
  3. Divide your salmon fillet into two and put in the middle of the puff pastry
  4. Season the salmon with salt and pepper (or your choice of seasonings)
  5. Put desired amount of pesto on the salmon fillets
  6. Thaw the spinach in the microwave so that you can spread it out over the top of the two salmon fillets
  7. Fold up the sides of the puff pastry. If the sides are not sticking, you can wet the seams with water or egg
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the puff pastry is puffed and golden.
  9. Serve and enjoy!

What are you up to this weekend? I hope you have a great weekend!

{what I’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! We are half way through the week…woo hoo! As always, I am linking up with Jamie's fabulous blog!

This week, I am loving:

{one} The chance to run outside! I went for my first run outside in a long time on Sunday and it was fabulous! I went again yesterday at lunch as I work close to the pathways by the river. Both times were super windy, but I will take it.
Before my run on Sunday and I was super excited!

{two} Words with Friends. Yesterday, Rachel and I were talking about iPhones and then both downloaded the game. Pretty sure our first game carried on throughout the night! And that Rachel kicked my ass! I smell a re-match in our future Smile If you want to play me (and more than likely win!) my username is Leakster3

{three} Nike Training for the iPhone.  I had downloaded the app a while ago, but finally used it for the second time last night. For a 25 minute-ish workout using your body weight and a set of light weights, it had me sweating in no time! It’s a larger app, so I definitely recommend downloading it to your computer first. But so worth the time Smile

{four} My sweet, sweet puppy! He is definitely picking up and learning a lot more stuff. Like how to drop his ball so that we can throw it for him and how to ride in a car without whining.
Not sure if he was helping me blog here or creeping on Facebook Winking smile

Lucky days!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Hope you had a great Valentine’s day and that your husband/boyfriend/etc spoiled you silly! We had a pretty low key evening….it involved the dog park, dinner made by both of us and House. Perfect Smile

I normally have the worst luck when it comes to giveaways or draws, but apparently lady luck has been on my side lately! On the weekend, I found out that I had won Brittany's print called ABC I Heart You. So excited as I have been looking for something for our bedroom and I think this is perfect. I can’t wait to print it out! Then yesterday, I found out that I had won Brittany's giveaway of a Delta pilar kitchen faucet with touch 20 technology! Seriously so excited to have this installed in our kitchen as our faucet has been leaking lately.

Ok, let’s be honest…..I don’t always have the best luck. Just read this post from last week and you will understand!

Have you ever won any giveaways or draws? If so, what have you won?

{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! The weekends need to stop going by so darn fast!

On Friday, I had the day off, but got to spend it getting estimates done. Hopefully this means my car will be fixed in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed! After that I went to the gym and then took Harley to the dog park. Later that night, we had some friend’s over. They just bought a house close to ours, so we are pretty excited for them! That and they might buy a hot tub….which we will definitely be crashing! Smile

On Saturday, I went to the gym in the morning and then in the afternoon we went car browsing. Since getting Harley and planning for kids in the next couple of years, we were in the market for an SUV. We ended up checking out the Ford Edge, Hyundai Sante Fe, Hyundai Veracruz, Mazda CX7.  Saturday night was pretty low key and that was perfect Smile

On Sunday, we cleaned up the house as we hadn’t done that in a couple weeks. It’s so hard to find the motivation to clean sometimes! In the afternoon, I met Alison and Cruz at the dog park. It was super windy out, but the dogs had a great time running and playing, and of course we got to chat and catch up. When I got home, I couldn’t pass up the great weather we were having and went for a run outside. It’s been my first run outside since December and it was glorious! Now only if the great weather would stick around!

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

ps- Happy Valentine’s day everyone!

Happy Friday everyone! I am off work today, but get the joy of going to get estimates to get my car fixed. Hopefully it’s a painless process and my car gets fixed sooner than later.

Public service announcement {part two}

A few months ago, I posted a tutorial about how to fix the problem. I have gained a few new bloggers recently and would love to respond to your comments, but unfortunately, I can’t.

If you follow this simple tutorial, which only takes a few minutes, it will let others reply to you Smile I promise, it’s super easy and definitely worth it!

I don’t know about you, but I love people watching especially at the gym. There have been a few interesting individuals that I have seen lately. Let’s see, how about the lady with a face full of make up, hair in curls and doing lunges around the track with a little hand bag in her hand. Couldn’t quite figure that one out. Or the guy who does boxing moves in front of the mirror for a good ten minutes before he starts lifting weights…maybe it would be fine if he wasn’t totally checking himself the whole time, while wearing a wife beater. Ah, I love watching people!

Happy Thursday everyone! Do you have any funny gym stories?

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Only two more days of work left for me this week as I have Friday off…couldn’t be more excited!

This week, I am loving:

{one} Seat sales! Westjet was having a 72 hour seat sale, which meant saving money and a flight booked for me! I am heading home in April to see my family and am super excited about it! I haven’t been home since July of last year, so it is long over due.

{two} Dog parks! We took Harley to a dog park near our house last night for the first time and he loved it. It also meant that we came home with a tired puppy Smile The only thing that I don’t get is how people leave their dog poop on the ground…it’s your animal and takes two seconds to pick up. Sure it’s smelly, but I don’t care to walk around your dogs poop thanks!

{three} My husband! He was the one who told me about the seat sale and he made sure that I booked a ticket…he knows how much I miss my family and he really wanted me to go home and see them. He was also so calm during Monday’s events and I owe him for that!

{four} New books. Sometimes I love, love, love reading, but other times I just can’t get into books. I started a book on the weekend called The Secret Daughter and I loved it! I am pretty sure that I finished it in three days. Anyone have book recommendations for me?

As always, make sure you check out Jamie's fabulous blog!

Oh happy Monday

Let’s just say that my week definitely did not start off good and that I should have stayed in bed!

On Monday’s, I go home on my lunch break to let Harley out. I had gone home and was on my way back to work when I was stopped at a red light about 5 minutes from home. I was looking down and all of the sudden I look in my rear view mirror and see a truck coming right for my car from behind.  With a loud crunch, my day changed for the worse. I got out to asses the damage and my bumper and trunk were ruined! The other lady had zero damage to her vehicle…lucky her! We had gotten a big dump of snow the night before, so that didn’t help her with being able to stop. I am luckily not hurt at all, just more shaken up over it. I guess you don’t expect a truck to run into the back of you on a Monday.

The damage:
There should be a piece of my bumper where the hole is above my license plate and my trunk should be closed, not open Smile

How was your Monday? Please tell me that it was better than mine! Smile

{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! Another weekend has come and gone again too fast!

On Friday, we made the drive back to Mr.D’s parent’s house and didn’t get into town until 9pm. We were supposed to meet up with some friends, but we were both really tired. We just hung out with his parent’s and went to bed earlier. Are we lame or what?!

On Saturday, we hung out during the day. My MIL and I took Harley and their dog Tag for a long walk down by the river. It was actually a pretty nice day! Later that night, we went out for dinner with my in-laws, Mr.D’s brother, wife and niece to celebrate my father in law’s birthday. It was a great dinner and great to see our niece who is growing like crazy!

Yesterday, Mr.D went to visit with his grandparent’s while I took Harley for another walk to tire him out. We met up with my friend T and her fiance for lunch…we haven’t seen them since they got engaged, so it was great to catch up! After lunch, we packed up and made the drive back home. There was a snowfall warning, but luckily the snow stayed away and the drive home was clear.

Question for all of the runners out there- if you have a bruised (purple and black) toe nail….is it going to fall off? It started hurting last week after one of my runs and last night, I took my toe nail polish off and noticed it was purple and black. Please tell me it won’t fall off! Haha I am a big baby!

How was your weekend? What did you do?

Have you ever had a toe nail fall off?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! This week seemed to drag on, so I am super happy that it’s Friday. This weekend, we are heading to Mr.D’s hometown to celebrate his dad’s birthday.

My Friday posts are always boring, so I thought I would start posting recipes that I have tried and have loved.

This week is Gina's garlic shrimp in coconut milk and tomatoes.

  • 1 1/4 lbs jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced, white and green parts separated
  • 1/2 cup cilantro
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (to taste)
  • 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 14 oz can light coconut milk (50% less fat)*
  • 1/2 lime, squeezed

In a medium pot, heat oil on low. Add red peppers and sauté until soft (about 4 minutes). Add scallion whites, 1/4 cup cilantro, red pepper flakes and garlic. Cook 1 minute.
Add tomatoes, coconut milk and salt to taste, cover and simmer on low about 10 minutes to let the flavors blend together and to thicken the sauce.
Add shrimp and cook 5 minutes. Add lime juice.
To serve, divide equally among 4 bowls and top with scallions and cilantro.

This dish was super easy to make and super delish! A definite keeper in my recipe binder Smile

I hope you have a great weekend everyone!

‘hey mister DJ, put a record on’

Lame title, but hey that’s me! I mentioned earlier in the week that I would be posting an updated play list of songs that I’ve found recently and have been running to. If you want to see my last playlist, check it out here.

  1. Major tom- Shiny Toy Guns
  2. Break your heart – Taio Cruz and Ludacris
  3. We R who we R- Kesha
  4. Club can’t handle me- Flo Rida and David Guetta
  5. Fuck you- Cee Lo Green
  6. Check it out- Will I Am feat Nicki Manaj
  7. Stereo love- Edward Maya feat Alicia
  8. Getting over you- David Guetta

I think it’s safe to say that Harley loved doggie daycare! Mr.D picked him up last night, and we got a good report back from the daycare. Apparently Harley is a polite puppy (meaning he wasn’t jumping up and sitting on command) and he spend the whole day playing with all of the other dogs. Let’s just say that he’s been sleeping since he got home at 5pm and will probably (fingers crossed) sleep through the night!  Mr.D made fun of me yesterday because I text messaged him asking if it would be weird if I called to check on Harley….he also told me that I will have more separation anxiety when our children go off to school then the kids! Haha.

Happy Thursday everyone!

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! As always, I am linking up with Jamie's fabulous blog!

This week, I am loving:

{one} That Harley is starting doggie daycare tomorrow! Even though it is a little expensive, we have decided that it is worth the money to get him out of the house once a week and to be socializing with other dogs. And we are hoping that he will be super tired when he gets home Smile We checked the place out last night, and the lady seemed fantastic.  Can’t wait to see how he likes it!

{two} My followers. Thank you all so, so, so much for your kind comments yesterday on my job news. All of the comments meant so much to me!

{three} New music. Running on the treadmill can get super boring, but with some great songs, it definitely helps get me through my run. I have found a bunch of new and fun running songs and will be posting them later this week.

{four} As always, my sweet husband! Mr.D is so kind and caring and I wouldn’t trade him for the world.

My exciting news…

Last week I mentioned that I had some exciting news….well last Thursday I found out that my job is finally permanent!

A little history about my job…I started in August of 2009, which was supposed to be covering for a lady’s vacation before she went on mat leave. The company ended up keeping me on month to month after that until November 2009, the company started paying me instead of the temp agency. Ever since then, I was hoping that my position would end up permanent as it’s a great company with great pay and great people.

I had applied for my position when it was posted as permanent back at the end of November and had been waiting to hear ever since. My boss finally came into the office (she works out of our provincial office) last Thursday and offered me the position. It is a sigh of relief knowing that I will be able to stay for a long time to come and not have to think about finding another job. Plus I will have benefits and a pension now which are definitely a good thing!

Thanks again to Alison for the congratulations last week! It was super nice of you Smile

Have you had any exciting job or life news recently? Have you ever had to wait over a year to find out about your job?
