{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! Although it was a short week, I am glad it's over. I've been feeling a little down since I came home from my mom's house...I miss her and miss being able to hang out :( That and the snow that we keep getting does not help my mood either!

This weekend, we are:
  1. I am running a 10k tomorrow morning. They are calling for snow/rain all day today and possibly rain tomorrow. Please stay away rain! I think I might have to buy myself a hat with a brim when I go to pick up my package tonight...nothing worse than rain or snow going straight into your eyes!
  2. Mr.D's parents are coming tomorrow until Sunday. Just a quick visit but it will be nice to see them.
  3. My FIL is going to hopefully install the faucet that I won awhile ago. So excited to finally have it installed!
What do you have planned for the weekend? Hope you have a great one!

RoadID review

A few weeks ago, I won a giveaway from Kristen for a RoadID. Since I’ve started training for my half marathon and running more, I will admit that I never carry i.d with me. It’s terrible I know, but I find it a pain to carry my driver’s license on every run, so this was the perfect solution.

The giveaway that I won meant that I was able to choose whatever product that RoadID offered. They have a few different choices, but I ended up choosing the original RoadID.  With your purchase, you are able to customize the information piece to include what you want on it and the colour of the band.

I decided to choose a purple band with the following information: my first and last name, date of birth, city, two emergency contact numbers and a saying of “just keep running”.  There are different sizes for the bands and using a Canadian $5 bill, I was able to figure out that I needed a small.

My version of the RoadID with some information blurred out
The other side of the band
A comparison for the size of the RoadID compared to my GarminIMG_0219
Me wearing it (don’t mind the no make up look!)

My review:

  • easy to order and customize to your needs. There is a section that provides examples of things you could include on your id which I found useful
  • Shipping was quick even to Canada and came with information on the product and others they offer
  • The band is not very wide, so I barely notice that I am wearing it
  • The band is a little stiff at first, but I am guessing it will loosen up with more wears and over time
  • Lots of different options from wrist bands to ones for your shoe laces
  • Definitely worth the $19.99 to know that if anything was to ever happen to me on a run, someone would be able to get a hold of my husband

If you are a runner or walker, do you carry id with you or do you have something similar to the RoadID?

Training Tuesday…err Wednesday

This whole having Monday off is throwing a wrench in my posts for this week, but I’m not complaining Winking smile

Week Seven

Total Kilometers

Cross Training
Swimming: 0
Biking: 0
Insanity: 60 minutes, abs and plyometric cardio videos

Walking: 9 kilometers

Last week after I mentioned that I kept forgetting how my runs were the week prior, several people mentioned using Daily Mile. Funny enough, I opened up an account on there about six months prior and had totally forgotten about it!  Definitely easy to quickly log in and put my work out in there with a quick note on how I was feeling.

Last weeks runs were all really good. The weather was relatively nice and nothing beats running outside. My long run of 12K was on Sunday due to me being home visiting my family, which meant a really randomly put together route. My hometown is super small, which means limited paved roads for me to run on.  Saw lots of cows, open fields and smelt lots of manure on the run!

I received the Roadid that I won in a giveaway last week and have worn it on a few runs already. I am thinking I will do a review on Thursday for those who don’t know what they are or might be interested in them. I also ordered a iFitness water belt, which hasn’t come in the mail yet, but I will probably do a review once I receive it.

Ps- only 31 days left until the half marathon! Craziness! I think I might keep saying that until the day off Smile

{weekend recap}

Happy Tuesday everyone! Love that it's a four day week, but not that I had to leave my family already :( I was a bad blogger this weekend and barely took any pictures!

Friday was spent travelling to my home town in Ontario. I arrived around 6pm and went out for dinner with my mom and brother. Nothing too exciting, but travelling always tires me out!

Saturday morning my mom and I were up bright and early and headed down to the States as it's 2 hours away to do some shopping. We both definitely got our fix at Target! I didn't buy as much as as I thought I would, but still came home with a bunch of good finds :) The line up at the border was awesome both way, maybe 10-20 minute wait. We thought it was going to be crazy busy because of the dollar and the long weekend. On the way home, we made a pit stop to see good friends and her baby that I had yet to meet. He was such a sweetheart and I wanted to steal him! Later that night, I met up with a friend that I've known since kindergarten and caught up over drinks. It was nice to see her and catch up on our lives.

Sunday I was up early to get my 12k run in before the business of the day. We had brunch at my mom's house and then went for a walk around my mom's small town as it was a gorgeous day out!

After the walk, I headed over to my dad's house to have dinner with him and other family members. It was nice being able to see everyone as I hadn't seen them since the wedding.

Monday was spent just hanging out with my mom as I had to head to the airport later in the afternoon. The weekend went by wayy too fast and I wish it could have lasted longer. I miss being home :(

How was your Easter weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday and Happy Easter everyone! I am off to my hometown to visit my family for the weekend and couldn't be more excited! Well, I will miss these two:

I won't be around on the computer this weekend as I will be spending quality time with the family, so I hope you have a great Easter weekend :)

Three Things Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone! So excited that it’s actually my Friday Smile

Yesterday Paula commented yesterday that I don’t post enough pictures of Mr.D and I, so I thought I would do a Three Things Thursday post with pictures and events of us.

1.  The first picture is from Mr.D’s first visit to me while I was in university.
Oh to be young and care free again!

2.  In the summer of 2007, I moved to Edmonton to live with and hang out with Mr.D. In his home town, they have a big fair that comes each year and we had a cartoon picture done of us.
Haha, the man asked how we met and this is what he came up with. Love the size of my boobs, wooza!

3. In 2008, we went to Vegas for a REALLY quick weekend trip to watch one of Mr.D’s good friend’s get married. The weekend involved: a red eye flight, lots of drinks, Dane Cook, an Elvis impersonator and terribly tacky suits for the guys in the wedding party.
Oh boy, were we ever chubby here!

What are your three things this Thursday?

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! So excited that there is only one more work day this week and I am off on a four day weekend. Not to mention that I am going home to see my family, which is even better Smile

I am linking up with Jamie's blog this week. Make sure you check out her blog Smile

This week, I am loving:

{one} That it’s a four day week and same with next week! I love short weeks, but sometimes they go by slower than a full week. That I do not love. Hopefully the next two days fly bySmile

{two} After a few people commented yesterday about using Daily Mile to keep track of my workouts, I remembered that I had set up an account about six months ago! Not sure how I forgot that, but glad you guys reminded me! So much easier to keep track. Add me if you have it as well Smile

{three} My husband. He had dinner made last night when I got home from a walk with Harley and I appreciate it so much! Not to mention the fact that he gets up with Harley each morning because someone named Leigh doesn’t like early mornings.

What are you loving today?

Training Tuesday

Here we go week six ! Only 40 more days and they are going to go by so quickly!

Week Six

Total Kilometers

Cross Training
Swimming: 0
Biking: 40 minutes
30 Day Shred: 20 minutes {level 1}

Walking: 15.0 kilometers

I really need to start writing down how I feel during and after each run so I can remember for this part of my post. Is it bad that I can barely remember a week ago?! My runs during the week were pretty good, but my long run on the weekend got pushed inside because of the darn snow! I have decided I would much rather run outside and hear my Garmin tick by rather than pound away on the treadmill. So come on spring weather!!

Last week I also ordered this hydration belt for my long runs…can’t wait until it comes in so I can try it out!

Questions for runners
My younger brother and I were text messaging the other night about him possibly running a half marathon with me.  We are looking at one two weeks after my second half marathon. Do you think that’s a terrible idea? Would I be able to do it?

{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! This is the last time I will complain, but enough with the snow already Alberta! Friday afternoon was sunny and relatively warm out, and then it started snowing that night and didn’t stop all weekend. I am so ready for spring!

{friday} I had the day off, but I was up early to take Harley to the vets for his manhood removal surgery. He was there for most of the day, so I had the day to myself. I lounged around and got the motivation to go for a run. Mr.D and I picked up Harley in the afternoon from the vet and he was totally himself! We both expected him to be out of it or really sleepy, but he was totally fine. Maybe a little tired, but overall he was himself. He definitely does not like the cone at all!
Poor Harley!

Later that night, one of Mr.D’s friends was in town and staying with us, so he came over and we just spent the night hanging out and catching up.

{saturday} Friday night was a little rough for us sleeping as every time that Harley moved with the cone on his head, he hit something and woke us up. Let’s just say that we were moving pretty slow on Saturday morning and I was in pj’s until 1pm. It was glorious! We had a bite to eat with Mr.D’s friend before he left town and then just spent the rest of the day hanging out.

{sunday} I went to the gym in the morning as it was still snowing and yucky out and I really didn’t want to run in that. I also tried the Insanity work outs that Alison has talked about before. I did the ab one and it hurt!  Harley had his last puppy class later that day and he passed Smile Still lots to work on, but we definitely see improvements with him.

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! I have the day off and I am sure enjoying it! The best part? The sun is finally out again!

It's almost 1pm and I have already: taken Harley to the vets for his surgery (they called a bit ago and said he did fantastic, so that's good!), gone for a 8k run, vacuumed the house, cleaned the bathroom, etc. I am on a roll!

This weekend will be pretty low key for us as we are not sure how down and out Harley is going to be. One of Mr.D's friends is staying the night as he is in town for a course, but other than that it's just hanging out for us.

What are your plans for the weekend? Hope it's great

Ps- good luck to Nicole who is running her 3rd half this weekend!

Three Things Thursday

My brain was not working last night, so I thought I would do a Three Things Thursday post. All the cool kids are doing it like Paula. Check out her blog, she’s funny  Smile

1. Did anyone watch the premier of the show Happy Endings last night?

I thought it was pretty funny and hopefully it stays around for a while! Thoughts if you watched it?

2. It is currently snowing yet again in Calgary. I love you mother nature when you bring spring and summer, but I am so over winter! Please bring back the spring weather and I promise to nerve curse you out again Smile

3. Today is my Friday! Woo hoo! So excited that this week is almost over. I know who’s not excited for Friday though….
IMG_1106 <--- This guy!
He doesn’t know it yet, but he is going in to get something’s snipped off. I really hope he doesn’t hate us forever because of it! {ps- he looks so young in that picture! Stop growing Harley!}

What are your three things today?

{what i’m loving}

I haven’t linked up with Jamie's blog in while, so I thought I would today Smile

This week, I am loving:

{one} My followers! You guys are awesome Smile I appreciate all of your advice last week to answering my fueling questions yesterday. It amazes me the friendships that I have made through blogging world.

{two} That we booked our flights to Florida in June!  Mr.D has a work conference, so I decided to take a few vacation days and enjoy the sun while he is in the conference. We just had to pay for my flight and my food while there, so it will be nice to get away for a few days. Thank you in advance Alison for watching Harley so we could get a way.

{three} That I have a four day week this week. It has been really busy at work the past couple of days, so it will be nice to have Friday off and relax for the day.

{four} That I get to go home to see my family in just over a week! I haven’t been home since last July, so it will be nice to be home for a quick visit.
Old picture of my brother’s gf, myself and my mom

Happy Wednesday everyone! Hope you have a great day!

Training Tuesday

I can't believe that I am already on week 5 (well week 6 as I am a week behind on posting) of 12 of my half marathon training already! It has gone by pretty quickly and makes me nervous that the big day is just going to sneak up on me!

Week Five

Total Kilometers

Swimming: 1250m, 35 minutes
Biking: 0
30 Day Shred: 60 minutes {level 1 and 2}

Walking: 10 kilometers

This week was pretty good running wise. The only tough part this week was finding the time to fit the runs in. One night I was home late as I had to travel for work and another I had a hair appointment. It meant fitting in the kilometers where I could each night, which ended up working out pretty well. The worst run was on the week for my long run of 11 kilomters...the weather was beautiful but my head was just not in the run. Sucks when that happens!! My hips and knees have been sore/stiff this week, so I think I need to do more stretching each night to loosen them up.

Questions for other runners
As I am starting to get into longer distances, when should I be taking my fuel? I know people do it differently, but I don't know when to start and how much I should be taking in. Help!

{weekend recap}

This weekend was fabulous and as always it went by too fast! Sad smile

Friday night was pretty low key. We took Harley for a walk and then I worked on baking cupcakes and making hummus for Rachel’s baby shower the next day.

Saturday was Rachel's baby shower, so I picked Alison up in the morning and we made our way to Rachel’s house to start setting up. Vanessa also met us there and the set up went really quickly. Everything turned out really well and hopefully Rachel enjoyed it Smile I know little Henry has lots of new things to try and wear Smile

Some pictures of the day:
The cupcakes that I made to look like owls
The cake that Vanessa’s mom made
The cute water bottle labels that Alison made

The beautiful mom to be!
All of the girls

Opening one of the many presents Smile

I hope you had a fabulous shower Rachel and I can’t wait to meet Henry!

On Sunday, the weather was FABULOUS! I am talking +12C, which sparked my wanting to do some spring cleaning. I cleaned the oven, fridge, vacuumed, did laundry, etc. In the middle of that, I went for an 11k run. My head wasn’t in the run, but it was so nice out which made it even better.

I am sad the weekend is over, but it was great to be able to spend time with the girls and to enjoy the fabulous weather.

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! Boy am I glad that it's Friday! This week has been a little rough for me, so I am glad it's over.

After reading all of your comments and internally debating it, I decided to bring up my friend's comments yesterday. Let's just say that it did not go well. I went about it in a mature way, yet she managed to turn it into accusing me of causing drama and spinning her words. I think the conversation opened my eyes to our friendship and to my friend's true self because she told me two important things. One, that she asked me over the other girl because she was in my wedding party and two, that she had only ever wanted 4 girls in the wedding party, but she had to choose between us because her fiance wanted 5 guys and she wanted even numbers. I mean, thanks I guess for choosing me but at the same time, she never wanted me in the wedding party as she only wanted 4 girls and I was the 5th. Yet I was the one causing the drama and spinning her words when I was just repeating back what she said to me. I tried to explain to her how the comments had left me feeling and that at the end of the day, I am happy to be part of her wedding party, but I wanted her to not feel like she had to choose me because she was in my wedding party. I don't regret bringing it up to her, as the truth came out about it, but I wish she was able to be more mature about the whole situation and would have been honest with me from the beginning.

How come friendships and situations can't be easy?! Isn't there an easy button for life? Haha. Sorry for the vent and long post, but it feels good to get it off my chest.

This weekend the weather is supposed to finally warm up again (+10C) which I am so looking forward to! Saturday is Rachel's baby shower, which I hope she loves and then we are going out for dinner with a friend who is town. Sunday is probably going to be spent relaxing and enjoying the warm weather if it shows up!

What are your plans for the weekend? Have a great one!

Thursday randomness

First off, thank you everyone for your comments yesterday on my post. Like I said, I don’t normally post a lot about my personal life and issues, but it had been bugging me for a while. I haven’t had a chance to respond to everyone’s comments, but know that I read all of them and appreciated them.

Now for some randomness:

  • my work sent us to Edmonton yesterday for an in-service and seminar. Can I just say that I appreciated the opportunity but getting up at 5:45am to make it to the airport was not fun! I am definitely not a morning person, so the early morning is catching up to me and it’s only 8:11pm.
  • I am excited for this weekend! Alison and Vanessa have been planning a baby shower for Rachel and I am so excited to see it all come together! And of course to see Rachel’s cute baby bump
  • I am getting my hair done tomorrow night and it’s long over due! So excited to have fresh highlights and a cut!
  • The half marathon sent me an email yesterday and there is apparently 52 days (well 51 now!) until my first half. That’s craziness!
  • I have forgotten how much Jillian Michael's hurts you. I did the Shred on Monday and last night and my chest is hurting. But it will lead to a nicer body right?!

What is your randomness for this Thursday? Hope you have a great day!

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Oh what to do?

I don’t normally talk a lot about my personal life and issues on my blog, but there has something that has been bugging me and I need to get it off my chest and get your opinion on it.

Back in January, I mentioned that a close friend had asked me to be in her wedding party (she was one of my bridesmaids) and I of course said yes! A few weeks later, her and her fiancĂ© came to visit us for a weekend and while we were out shopping, we were talking about the wedding party. She made the comment to me that she had a hard time choosing between myself and another friend. I know the other friend, while we are not close, she is a really nice girl. I didn’t really say anything back to her when she said that, as I really wasn’t sure what the response was supposed to be. Since then, it has come up again, and I did not respond again.

Since the time of the comments, we have bought our bridesmaids dresses and made other wedding related plans. I will ask about her plans, but I find myself not being excited for the wedding or any of the wedding related events. Being a close friend, I should be excited for her and couldn’t quite put my finger on why I was feeling this way.

I’ve realized that her comments have left me feeling unwanted and that she was obligated to ask me to be in her wedding party as she was in mine. It has also made me feel awkward when thinking about the actual wedding day because all I can picture is how she really wanted the other girl in the wedding party, but that she felt like she HAD to ask me.

Now, here is what I don’t know what to do. Suck up the feelings that I am having and pretend to enjoy myself on the wedding day or do I mention it to her now? I really do want to be in the wedding party and don’t want to cause issues in our friendship, but I don’t enjoy feeling like this.

If you were in this situation, what would you do? Talk to your friend and if need be, give up the dress to the other girl and go on your merry way? If my friend says that she wants the other girl to be in the wedding party after consideration, I am okay with that. Sure it might be awkward at first, but to me, it’s better than being up there when she didn’t really want me in the first place.

Training Tuesday

I’ve seen this done on a few other people’s blogs who are training for a race and I totally forgot to do it last week. So here are my stats from March 2011.

Number of rest days: 2 (I don’t count the days I walked Harley as rest days as I am out moving my legs)
Number of running days: 19
Total kilometers ran: 104.6
          Biking on trainer: 154 mins
         Swimming: 2250 meters, 75 mins
         Walking with Harley: 42.56 kilometers

Week Four

Total kilometers

Swimming: 1000 meters, 35 minutes
Biking: 0

Walking: 12.5 kilometers

This week was definitely much better than last week in terms of my motivation. I didn’t know how well fitting in my runs/workouts was going to be this week as Mr.D was out of town, which meant it was just me looking after Harley, but it worked out just fine. The weather was fabulous, so my favourite runs were on Tuesday and Thursday as they were done outside on the paved pathways near my house. Saturday was snowing really hard, so that meant treadmill for me.

The kilometers are slowly starting to increase each week, which means more time spent running, but definitely not sick of running yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way as I have 8 more weeks before the half!

{weekend recap}

How is it Monday already?! Another weekend has gone by too fast yet again.

Friday: a pretty low key night. Came home from work and took Harley for a walk and then spent the night hanging out. I watched The Fighter, which was pretty good. I thought there was going to be a lot more boxing in it, but it was interesting how they incorporated the brother’s story into it.

Saturday: I went to the gym in the morning to run my scheduled 8k as it was snowing so hard! Boo to snow! The past week had been so nice out that the grass was showing in our backyard. Definitely not after the dumping we got on Saturday!  The rest of the day was spent taking Harley for a walk and waiting for Mr.D to get home. I didn’t mention it on the blog in case someone wanted to come scare me, haha. Mr.D went to Moab, Utah to go biking and bouldering with one of his co-workers. He had quite the time, but I was more than ready for him to be home Smile

Sunday: spent the morning lazing around and working up the motivation to go to the gym to swim. I finally got myself out of my pjs and swam 1250 meters. I am slowly getting faster, which feels great! We had puppy classes in the afternoon and then we went out for dinner.

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{recipe friday}

Happy Friday everyone! So happy that it’s Friday, but not happy they are forecasting 15-20cm of snow starting on Saturday Sad smile Hopefully the weather man is really, really wrong and the snow stays away.

Did anyone watch Grey’s last night? I am not a big musical fan, so I could have done without all of the singing, but great episode otherwise!

This week’s recipe is for baked falafels. I can’t remember where I got the recipe from, but I quite enjoy them!

1 can garbanzo beans (or chick peas), drained and patted dry
1/2 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 teaspoons ground cumin (I use less because I find cumin to be really overpowering at times)
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  1. Combine all ingredients in the bowl of the food processor
  2. Pulse mixture until coarsely ground
  3. Transfer to a bowl or container and refrigerate, covered for several hours
  4. Preheat oven to 500 degrees
  5. Form the mixture into balls of your size choice
  6. Place on a foil lined non-stick baking sheet
  7. Bake for 10 minutes, turn and back for another 5 minutes
  8. Serve in a pita with tomato, lettuce, tzatziki or your choice of toppings

What do you have planned for the weekend? Hope you have a great one no matter what you are doing Smile
