Three Things Thursday

Only because it’s Thursday aka Friday this week, and I am excited this week is finally over, we are going to do another round of “would you rather” Thursday.

Here we go!

{1} Would you rather be on MasterChef or Hell’s Kitchen?
I personally love Gordon, but I can’t cook that well. So I would definitely be yelled at either way!

{2} Would you rather chug a container of eggnog or eat the burger family from A&W in one sitting?

{3} Would you rather run a file across your teeth or walk barefoot across broken glass? {just to note, this one came from Mr.D!}

Let’s hear your answers!

I hope everyone has a great long weekend! I am hoping the nice weather sticks around so we can enjoy it Smile

What do you have planned for the long weekend?

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! Only one more work day and it’s the weekend! Even better that it’s a long one! I still can’t believe that it’s almost July…where is this year going?!

This week, I am loving:

{one} My first bike ride to work and home went well yesterday! It was about 18k each way, and took a little longer on the way home. Let’s just say the little stumps of mine were tired and it was hot out!

{two} Good summer reads! I finished The Art of Racing in the Rain while on vacation and loved it! I am reading another dog related book that Alison lent to me, and it’s good so far. I am thinking of doing a little summary of the books I have read recently and hopefully people can find new books to read. Anyone have some to suggest to me?

{three} The weather has finally felt like summer here lately! I am hoping with all fingers and toes crossed that it’s finally here to say. Especially for the long weekend.

{four} That I finally registered for the Victoria half marathon! I am meeting up with Amber, Lisa and Lauren. So excited to spend time with these girls and to run a half with them!

Training Tuesday

Let’s start this post off by saying I had a no good Monday. It was one of those days where you wake up with a headache from the night before and it just keeps getting worse from there. I got into work and our internet, telephones and computer system was down…awesome! Then a co-worker was sick, so I had double the work. Ok, rant over.

Next week marks the start of my next half marathon training cycle (crazy!), so I decided I need to get back into the swing of keeping track of my work outs and get back into the swing of running.

Total kilometers
8.7 {terrible, I know!}

Swimming: 1000m, 30 minutes
Cycling: 10.3k
Other: Hot yoga, 75 minutes

Considering we were away for the first days of the week, it wasn’t too bad of week. I am going to try and start riding my bike to work once a week, which is about 20k one way. Fingers crossed it goes well!

Are you training for anything? If so, how is it going?

{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? We have been away from home for the past three weekends, so I am happy to be home again Smile

{friday} As soon as I got home from work, we packed up and made the three hour drive to my in-law’s house. Mr.D had plans to meet up with some friends that were in town so I dropped him off and then hung out with my MIL in for the night.

{saturday} We were both moving a little slow on Saturday morning (Mr.D had a few drinks the night before and Harley had me up for the whole hour of 5am. Fun!), so we hung out for most of the day. In the afternoon, we took Harley for a walk and then I met up with a friend for a hot yoga class. I hadn’t gone to a class in a while, and it was hot! After the class, we met up with some friend’s for dinner.

{sunday} In the morning, we all went to see Mr.D’s grandpa at his seniors home for breakfast. After breakfast, we took Harley and our niece for a walk and then packed up and headed home. I took zero pictures this weekend, as I was having too much fun playing with my niece!

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

Florida trip {recap}

First, I wish I was still on a beach. Second, I wish I was still on a beach. Moving on as it’s not going to happen in Alberta!

We left for Florida late Friday night, early Saturday morning. The red eye was as awesome as red eyes can be and we arrived in Toronto around 7am. Our next flight to Tampa wasn’t until 10:30am, so I had a delightful nap on the airport benches. Both flights were pretty uneventful, but we were both glad to be in Tampa finally! We had to take a shuttle bus to St. Pete’s Beach, which is where Mr.D’s conference was. We got to the hotel in the late afternoon and didn’t do much except pick up some food, walk on the beach and go out for dinner that night. We went to a restaurant called Crabby Bill’s as it looked busy and decent, but let’s just say it should have been called Crappy Bill’s. It had an awesome deck overlooking the water, so no complaints about that.
{please look at the second line from the top- definitely no frills food at Crabby Bill’s!}

Sunday and Monday during the day, Mr.D' has his conference, which meant I was on my own. The hotel was right on the beach and had little cabana type things you could use, so I spent my days there. I burnt really badly on Sunday, so I spent Monday and Tuesday morning hiding from the sun in the cabana!

Nightly walks on the beach

On Sunday night, we went to a restaurant called Snapper’s. It was the most delicious and amazing meal that we have had in a long time! Both of our entrees were under $20, so it was reasonably priced. I definitely recommend it if you ever are in the St. Pete’s Beach area!

On our way home, we flew from Tampa-Dallas-Calgary, but unfortunately our flight from Tampa was delayed, so we missed our connecting flight in Dallas. Lucky us, got to spend the night in Dallas and didn’t get home until late afternoon on Wednesday. But the one highlight of the unexpected pit stop was the Texas shaped waffle maker the hotel had.
Only in the States I tell ya!

It was a great trip and was nice to get away with Mr.D even if it was only a few days.

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have a great weekend!

I’m back!

After a long and unexpected delay, we have finally made it home! We were supposed to be home from Florida on Tuesday night, but our flight from Tampa to Dallas was delayed, so we missed our connecting flight. We got to spend the night in Dallas, if only we could have actually seen the city!

But Florida was awesome! Definitely hot, hot, hot while we were there. Mr.D enjoyed his conference, and I definitely enjoyed the beach!

Here’s a few sneak peeks:
The view from our room

Sunset views from one of our dinners

Another gorgeous sunset!

I was super tired last night, so full recap will be tomorrow Smile Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Alison & Justin who put up with Harley for the time we were gone and took him for an extra day because our delay. We appreciated it so much!

Three Things Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone! It's my Friday and I am so excited about that! I am beyond tired this week {thanks again PMS} so I am ready for a day off. The dreary and rainy weather that we are having here isn't helping either.

This TTT is going to be a round of 'would you rather'. It's fun, so we're doing it :)

{one} Would you rather go on an all expenses paid trip to Australia or across Europe?

{two} Would you rather run or bike across Canada?

{three} Would you rather date Prince Harry or Prince William?

Let's hear your answers!

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! This week I am linking up with Jamie's blog for {what i’m loving} Wednesday!

This week, I am loving:

{one} That there is only one work day left for me this week! I have my earned day off on Friday. Even better is that….

{two} We are heading to Florida on Friday night/early Saturday morning! Mr.D has a work conference and I decided to tag along. So excited for sun, sand, and warmth! That and shopping too Smile

{three} We are only able to go because of the kindness of good friends. Alison & Justin volunteered to look after Harley while we are gone. I am sure Cruz and Harley are going to have a bundle of fun playing together and will be dead tired each night! Thank you again Alison, we appreciate it so much!

{four} New to me books. I picked up three books from the library this week and can’t wait to get into them on our trip. I will have plenty of time to read as I will alone each day, so I am sure they won’t last long.  Even better is that they all come recommended from Lisa, who is the book queen!

What are you loving this week?

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Ok, I won't lie. I am in a down right foul and grumpy mood. I am going to blame it on PMS. Love being a girl!

No more complaining from me, I promise :) A friend sent me more pictures from this weekend, so I thought I would share. That and because my brain was not in the mood for coming up with a post for today.

{weekend recap}

Our weekend away camping was fantastic! The weather sort of cooperated with us, only raining once on Saturday afternoon for about an hour. The rest of the time was pretty nice, but the nights were still chilly. Welcome to Alberta!

We went to Fernie, BC which is just over a three hour drive from Calgary. We went with three other couples, and Mr.D ended up leaving earlier on Friday with one of the other guys because I had to work until 4:30pm. I ended up driving with two of the other wives and we didn’t get there until 9:30ish on Friday night.

On Saturday, five out of the eight went mountain biking. Myself and two of the other wives hung out together and took all of the dogs to the dog park (there were three dogs including Harley). Harley did pretty well with his first camping trip minus the stealing of people’s food!

Ready for picture overload?!

early morning walks
one tired puppy!
I guess we are kinda cute!
gorgeous scenery!
one excited and tired puppy with a gorgeous background

Harley has been sleeping since we got home, so I think he had a fun weekend!

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! The sun is finally shining here, but unfortunately there is a chance of rain this weekend. Boo!

This weekend, we are:

  • heading to Fernie, BC to camp with some friends for the weekend
  • eating lots of bad food, marshmallows included
  • praying that the rain stays away
  • sitting by the campfire
It is our first camping trip in a long time, so it should be a fun weekend! Hopefully Harley behaves himself and doesn't eat too many sticks, haha.

Hope you have a great weekend! What do you have planned?

ps- I fooled all of you yesterday! My three things were all true. Yes, I wanted to be a midwife {we are talking in my teenage years} and yes I failed a course. Fingers crossed my mom hasn't found my blog yet!

Three Things Thursday

As much fun as “would you rather”  were for TTT’s, I decided to change it up this week.

Ok, I am going to post three things about myself and you have to decide which ones are true and which ones are false.

{one} I didn’t have my first kiss until age 15. And it was because someone was dared to kiss me.

{two} When I was younger, I wanted to be a midwife. All because of my love for the show A Baby Story. I watched it everyday in the summer without fail.

{three} I failed a course in university, but never told my parents. And they hopefully still don’t know!

Let’s hear your answers Smile

{what i’m loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! This week, I am linking up with Jamie's fabulous blog for:

This week, I am loving:

{one} Pedicure dates with friends. On Monday night, I met up with Nicole for pedicures. We both haven’t had one since our half marathons, so they were definitely over due. It’s always fun to get out of the house and have girl talk. Thanks again Nicole!

{two} That I made a board with all of my racing bibs and one medal so far. I just had everything sitting in a pile at home, so I decided to put them up in my office at work, so I can see them everyday and realize how far I have come with my running. Makes me excited for my next races Smile

{three} This sweet face! How can you not love it?!

Ps- I mean Harley, not mine Winking smile

What are you loving today?

Dear running….

First things first, I totally forgot to announce the winner of my giveaway yesterday. So onto the good news….the winner is the running lawyer! Congratulations! Please send me an email at bestthingislove [@] gmail [.] com.

Dear running,

For the past five solids months, we have met 3-4 times per week without fail. You have shown me that I am stronger than I could ever imagine and yet you never fail to show me that I still have a long way to go. You have helped me to lose those last pounds and make my legs leaner. You have made me sweat, made me hurt and made me wonder why the hell I keep coming back to you! There is something I have to tell you though…as much as I love you and like you being in my life, I have to take a little break from you.

Sorry running, but I am going to cheat on you with cycling and swimming for a couple of weeks. I promise I will still visit you, but it might just not be as much.

Let’s make a deal….if I come back to you and still give you love while loving cycling and swimming, will you please let me come back to you where we left off? I might even spend extra time foam rolling and stretching if you promise to make my return to you easy.

Love you forever and always!

{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! Back to the grind, boo urns!

{friday} We took Harley up to the park by our house and threw the ball a million and one times for him. He seriously loves playing catch! Later on, we went out for dinner to The Keg. I think the best part of the dinner was the escort that was eating near us with her much older dinner date. And English definitely was not her first language. It was one of those times that you couldn’t stop staring and figuring out how that works!

{saturday}  During the day, Mr.D went biking with a friend, so I hung out with Harley and went for a bike & swim at the gym. The brick workout felt pretty good! Later in the day, we went to Mr.D’s friend’s surprise birthday party, which was a lot of fun. I had another small world experience, when Sarah came up and introduced herself. Turns out, she is friend’s with Mr.D’s friends wife, found my blog recently and is also friends with one of Alison’s friends! Funny how small the world is and how blogging makes it even smaller. Make sure you leave a comment Sarah Smile

{sunday} In the morning, we went to check out a wetsuit for my upcoming triathlon. Open water swim in Alberta = chilly water! I was looking at a woman’s wetsuit, but it was way too big. The seller had a youth one, which ended up fitting me perfectly. What can I say, I am really tiny! After that, we met up with some friend’s for brunch at a place called Cadence Cafe in Bowness. Just a small place, but it was really yummy! In the afternoon, my BIL, SIL and niece stopped in on their way home for a visit.  I got to spend time with this cutie:

We don’t get to see our family enough, so it was nice to spend time with them.
