Getting to know you

Happy Thursday everyone! One day closer to Friday....woo hoo!  I saw this fun post idea on Caroline from Simply Smithwick's blog the other day and thought it was great way to find out a little bit about my readers. Feel free to answer all or just a couple of the questions :)

Who are you?

Do you blog, too? Leave me your link!  I want to follow you!

Do you remember how you found my blog? A link-up? Another blog?

How long have you been reading?

What keeps you coming back to my blog?
What would you like to see me blog about more?

What is something we have in common?

Tell me a fun fact about yourself!
I thought because you are telling me a little about yourself today, I would tell you about myself in a nutshell. Here we go:
Short. Sassy. Can be shy and quiet. Loves to workout. Hates slow drivers. Stubborn. Holds a mean grudge. Wears my heart on my sleeve. A sucker for romance. Loves a good DIY project. Addicted to Diet Coke. Loves trashy reality TV shows.

{what i'm loving}

Happy Wednesday everyone! Hope you are having a great week so far :)

This week, I am loving:
  • that my mom is coming out for a visit on Thanksgiving weekend. Only one more weekend!
  • that the weather (minus last night and possibly today) has been absolutely gorgeous
  • a new recipe that turned out so deliciously! The recipe was for beef and barely soup from Skinny Taste. Definitely recommend it!
  • some awesome workouts lately whether it be at CrossFit or at home
  • that my birthday is in one month from today!
  • that the fall shows are starting up again! Can't wait for Grey's Anatomy on Thursday and am loving Sons of Anarchy.
Tell me: what are you loving this week?

{weekend recap}

Happy Monday everyone! I felt like I blinked and the weekend was over already :( One more day would have been perfect.

If you haven't already, make sure you stop by Alison's blog and give her some birthday love! She turned the big 3-0 yesterday :)

happy birthday dear friend!
{friday} We had no plans, so I decided to head to CrossFit for a workout. After my workout, I met Mr.D for dinner and then we headed home. It's so exciting to be married!! Haha, only teasing.

{saturday} Mr.D was off biking with a friend for the day, so I spend the day doing stuff I wanted to do. I went for a run, took Harley for a walk and ran some errands. The weather was beyond gorgeous this day (around 26C) and it was so nice to be outside. After Mr.D got home from his ride, we headed out to grab some groceries. We spent the night watching the movie called The Five Year Engagement....let's just say that we stopped it just over an hour in and neither of us could handle anymore of it. Save yourself some time and don't watch it :)

{sunday} Mr.D was off for another bike ride, so I headed to CrossFit in the morning. Today's workout was 'Grace', which is 30 clean and jerks for time. If you want to know what the clean and jerk is, click here for a video on it. I used 70lbs and finished in 5:48. It was my first time meeting Grace, so as much as she hurt me, I can't wait to see her again!!

After CrossFit, Alison came to pick me up and we headed to a farmer's market which is close to my house. Neither of us had ever been and were surprised at how much stuff and vendors there were. I will definitely be back next summer :) The rest of the day was spent walking Harley, making some soup and going for wings with some friends.

I took a bike ride in the afternoon, and the colors of the trees were so gorgeous!

Tell me: how was your weekend? What exciting things did you get up to?

Friday's letters

Dear Friday: thank you for coming around again! Dear eye: I am so sorry that something got into you on Wednesday night and caused you to be scratched. Hopefully the eye drops help you soon. Dear weather: thank you for being awesome lately! Keep it up. Dear Alison: happy early birthday! See you hopefully on Sunday :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

WOD's and birthday lists

Happy Thursday everyone! This week has been pretty busy at work, so I am getting excited it's almost the weekend again.

I haven't talked lately about the CrossFit workouts that I've been doing, so I thought I would post a couple that I've done. On Monday, the workout was:

This was a TOUGH workout! I used 1.25 pood/hand and 85lbs for the front squats. I was beating myself up mentally through this whole workout. I'll be glad if I never see it come up again.

Last night, the workout was:

This was a MUCH better workout for me. I used 75lbs for the push jerk and finished in 21:53. Luckily, I partnered with a friend in the class and we helped push each other through it.

My birthday isn't for another month, but Mr.D keeps bugging me about what I want for my birthday. So, here are some of the things on my birthday wish list.

1. A pair of weightlifting shoes
I haven't decided on a what pair I want yet though

2. A pair of Reebok nano's
Can be found here

3. Fun socks for CrossFit
I like these or these

4. Workout gear
- Lululemon cool racerback tank top in size 4
Lululemon run swiftly tech v-neck in size 4
- Lululemon run swiftly tech long sleeve in size 4
- Lululemon turbo run short in size 4

5. I would never say no to jewelery either ;)

I am sure I will think of more stuff as soon as I hit publish on this post!

These are my confessions {V17}

You can find my previous confessions here:

Too many hair products
Shaving my big toes
Must make the bed
Random chin hair

Zero patience

Small number of friends

No undies
Silly crushes
Children's toothbrush
Picky eater
Dislike for country music
First kiss
Not using the dishwasher

To do a bikini body building contest or not?

Cry baby

I confess....that I am terrible at doing my hair. I have three basic looks:

1) Straight

2) French braids/ braid

3) Attempted curls

It makes me wish that I was better at doing my hair like Adrian or Kate. Any one want to give me lessons on how to do my hair?!

Tell me: what are you terrible doing beauty wise? Or what do you wish you could do better?

Easy as apple pie

Okay, maybe it's not quite apple pie, but it's close and super easy to make. A few weekends ago, my mother in law brought down some apples from the tree in her backyard. They sat in our fridge until this weekend because I had no ideas what to make with them. I had a few cook books in our cupboard, so I started flipping through them until something caught my eye. That recipe was Anne's apple squares.

1/4 cup margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/8 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking power
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped apples

3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup white sugar

For bottom, melt the margarine; add sugars, egg and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in a well greased 8 inch pan. For the topping, sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes. Enjoy!

* I doubled the amount of apples
* I also doubled the recipe to make thicker bars

Enjoy right out of the oven with some vanilla ice cream!

Tell me: have you baked anything yummy lately?

{weekend recap}

Oh hello Monday! So wasn't ready for you to come again already. I'm starting to count down the days until Thanksgiving, so I can have a long weekend! Anyone else with me?!

{friday} Even with all of the things going on at work right now, we decided to go ahead with our already planned BBQ. So glad we did because everyone was able to come together, eat some good food, have some drinks and enjoy the night. The weather was luckily on our side, so we were able to hang out on our balcony for the night. Mr.D came to join us, and we didn't end up getting home until after 9pm. Wild night for us!

{saturday} Even though we went to bed before 11pm, I somehow slept in until 10:30am!! I can't remember the last time that happened. After getting up, I laid around reading book for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon, we took Harley to get his nails cut and to get us some lunch. After getting back from that small outing, I laid down in bed and slept for 2.5 hours!! Apparently my body was demanding sleep and I had no problem giving in to it.

{sunday} In the morning, I did some cleaning up around the house and then headed to a CrossFit workout. After my workout, I came home and grabbed Harley to go for a run. I wasn't sure how he was going to do, but he stayed with me for the entire 8.4km run. After our run, I did some cleaning and baking. Perfect way to end a Sunday afternoon :)

And because I suck and took zero pictures this weekend, let's end the post with a random picture.

Tell me: how was your weekend?

The unexpected in life

This week has been really tough emotionally, so don't be surprised if I am not around for the next little while. I don't want to say too much because it's personal to two of my co-workers, but all I can say is this:

Life doesn't make sense at times and can change in a quick second. Make sure you tell your friends, families, loved ones that you love them today and everyday.

Race recap: Run For Water 10K

Another 10k in the books! It was a gorgeous day for a race and I was so glad that I signed up for this race.

The race started at 9am out of Eau Claire, which meant a sleep in and lots of time to make my way downtown. I got to the race start about 25 minutes before hand, and quickly found Nicole, J and Audrey pretty quickly. We chatted for a few minutes and then it was off to the start line! I also ran into Cori coming out of the bathroom :) For the 10k, they had pace bunnies which I had never seen before. The route was different from most races that start at Eau Claire, which was great (you can find the race map here).

My main goal for this race was to take it easy for the first 5k and then pick it up in the second 5k. That didn't exactly happen, but I beat my 10k time from two weeks ago and I didn't puke at the end. That always makes me happy! ;)

Overall, I really enjoyed this race. Great route, awesome medal and great volunteers. The only negative part was there was a part on the course where the 10k runners and 5k walkers met up. The race took place on the river pathways and the walkers were walking 3-4 abreast across the pathway. I kept having to yell "on your left" and some barely moved over at all. I know that's hard to control, but that would be the only negative part to this race.

My finishing time was 56:49, 23 out of 58 in my age group and 155 out of 303 people. Not my greatest race, but that's what I get for not training.

Cori and I after the race
I loved the medals!
Nicole and I before the race
After the race, I hung around to watch Nicole come across the finish line looking strong! We grabbed some food and water, and chatted for a couple minutes after.

Overall, a great race! I can't wait to do this one again next year.

A little life update

Hello everyone and happy Monday! I was really hoping that I'd wake up today and it would be Sunday. But that didn't happen, so let's get on with this week and make it Friday again :)

I was pretty quiet last week on the blog front and have a feeling it might be quiet for a while too. I have an inkling that things are about to get nutty at work, and know that I won't feel like blogging much. So, if that happens, I promise that I am alive :)

Onto a little life update:

  • I went home to Ontario two weekends ago to visit my family. It was perfect...the weather was gorgeous (okay, maybe a little hot), the sun was shining and I got to spend time with my family. Perfection.
The beach
My mom
Enjoying a beach day
I love that place
A sign my mom has in one of the rooms at her cottage
My family :)
  • this weekend was perfect. It included some shopping, a sushi date with my hubby {bahahahaha}, a 10K race, a CrossFit class, walks with Harley and a bike ride.

These are my confessions {V16}

First things first, I owe Adrian a HUGE thank you for making me a button. You are amazing Adrian and I owe you big time :)

You can find my previous confessions here:

To do a bikini body building contest or not?

I confess....that every time I make a trip back to Ontario, I always cry at the airport. It doesn't help that my mom has tears flowing either! I know that I will see my mom/family again in a couple months, but I still get sad every time that I leave them again. I wish I could remove a couple provinces and bring Ontario and Alberta closer so Mr.D and I could always see our families.

My older brother, mom, myself, and my younger brother
