{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! How is your day going so far? Mine is pretty dandy....I took today off, so I slept in, took Harley for a walk, did a load of laundry and am now sitting here catching up on blog posts. I could get used to this :)


Later today, I am heading over to Nicole's house with Alison to finally meet Nicole's baby girl. So looking forward to it! After that, I might stop at Costco to see what's new there and then a CrossFit class tonight. Mr.D is finally coming home from his bike trip in Utah with some friends, so I am excited to see him after a week away. 


Tomorrow we are off to Mr.D's hometown to see his family for his grandpa's 90th birthday. It's been a while since we've seen everyone, so that will be fun to catch up.

These are my confessions {V2}

Are you ready for another weekly confusion from yours truly? You can find last week's confusion here. Ok, here we go...

I confess....that I shave my big toes. I really have no idea if it is strange for me to do this, but I can't stand having hair on my big toes. They aren't crazy hairy, but I still can't handle having hair on them. I don't even remember when I started, but it's been a long time.

I promise that they aren't this bad!

Race report: Rogers Insurance Run for L'Arche

Before I get into my race report, I just wanted to let you know that my post is up in the Canadian bloggers series. If you would love to learn more about Canada, you can find the post here.

This past Saturday was my first race of 2012 and it was a 5 mile race. It is not a common distance for races in Canada and they gave you a medal, so I of course jumped at the chance to register! 


I picked up my race package on the Friday night, which included the typical technical shirt, race bib, a magazine and few other random things. The race packages are definitely lack luster compared to those in the States!  The nice thing about this race was that it started at 10am for the half marathon and 10:15am for the 5 mile. That gave me a chance to sleep in, eat breakfast and make my way downtown for the race. 


Going into this race, I wasn't sure how it was going to go as I haven't been training as much as I should have been. That being said, I went into it wanting to have a fun run and see what I could do.  The course was an out and back, which was fun to see the leaders way ahead of me before I even hit the turn out point. As the race was limited to 150 people for the 5 mile, most of the time I ran alone and barely had anyone around me, which was strange at times.

Overall, this was a great race! They had so many volunteers, who were all fantastic and so many people at the finish line cheering you on. They had a huge selection of food including eggs, sausages, pancakes, etc afterwards (I didn't stay for it). It was relatively inexpensive for a race and will definitely be doing it again next year!

This weekend also included a CrossFit class and a shopping trip with Alison on Sunday. I actually didn't buy much, but we did manage to find a cute spring jacket for $5! Yes you read that right.

Happy Friday everyone! Another week survived and it's finally the weekend...hallelujah!

This weekend, I am:

  • running my first 5 mile race! It's not a very common distance for races around here, so I am excited about it
  • finishing up the bibs that I am making for Lisa. Only two left and they are all done :)
  • going to a CrossFit class
  • going shopping with Alison on Sunday. My tax return money is burning a hole in my pocket, plus I really need some new clothes.

These are my confessions


Last week, I did a post with some of my confessions. I thought it would be a fun post series to each week with a different confession each week. The confessions could be juicy, interesting or totally lame.
So, here we go!

I confess....that I have entirely too many hair and beauty products! I honestly did not count them, but I still have a feeling that I have a lot of different products. I will say though that I have very thick and coarse hair, so I need all the hair products I can get to make it straight.

Tuesday motivation

Hello Tuesday! One day closer to the weekend....anything to get you through the week right?! Last night, Mr.D and I went to a CrossFit class. Let's just say that we can go to a class together, but can't be partners. I won't tell you who snipped at who *cough myself cough* The workout was:
A. 3 Rounds for time:
Row 300m
30 Sit-ups
B. Tabata Intervals
1. Back Extensions
2. Med Ball Cleans
The medicine ball cleans were so HARD after doing the back extensions! But we got the workout done, so it's another one in the books.
As the CrossFit opens are going on right now, I thought I would use that for motivation today. 



This is WOD 12.4, which took place last week. Let me just say, 150 wall balls is a LOT of wall balls. And muscle ups are not easy and these guys make it look like NOTHING. I especially love 1:25....so cool!



This next video features Brett Marshall who co-owns and works out of the CrossFit location that we go to. Brett is an amazing athlete and never fails to teach you something or inspire you. Love this video!

{weekend recap}

Another weekend has come and gone....can't believe that we are nearing the end of March already! This year is flying by whether we like it or not!


This weekend, we:


-Went to a CrossFit class together on Friday night. It was pretty tame workout, but it was good to go to practice some of the movements. The workout was:

A. Hang Snatch - 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, rest 2-3 minutes
B.  Snatch Balance  1 rep x 6 sets, rest 2:00
- Took Harley for a 6.5k run on Saturday morning. It started snowing less than a kilometer into our run, but thankfully died down!
- ran errands on Saturday afternoon and then stopped by our CrossFit location to watch everyone do the open workout 12.4. It was seriously inspiring!
- lazed around on Saturday night and started working on the bibs that Lisa asked me to make for some friends. Just have to sew the outside of the bibs and they are done :)










- Went to another CrossFit class on Sunday morning with Mr.D that had us sweating from the get go!
- put together an Easter basket for my niece. It was actually a lot of fun!

Happy Friday everyone! I know I am glad that it's here...especially since I struggled to get out of bed this morning. So looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow! {do you hear that Harley...we are sleeping in!}


We actually have quite a boring weekend planned. As in we have ZERO plans...besides going to a CrossFit class or two of course. We also might get together with some friend's and their dog for a puppy play date.

These are my confessions

I don't know what it is about this week, but I'm definitely not feeling it. I don't know if the time change has just sent me for a loop, but I'm feeling kind of down and out. Nothing is wrong per say, just that kind of mood. So if I am a little absent this week, you know why :)

Okay, I've got a few confessions for this Wednesday.

I confess that...Mr.D and I can't share a tub of tooth paste because I make a complete mess of it and it drives him insane! I don't know what it is, but I can never keep the top of the tube clean.

I confess that...my biggest fear is someone breaking into our house while I'm alone and hurting me. Good thing we have an alarm and a "guard dog" ;)

I confess that... I can't stand when people call pregnant women 'prego' or 'preggers'. Drives me insane!

I confess that... I don't really understand the whole Toms trend. Sure, they might be comfortable but so are my Nike free's and I don't wear those 24/7 or to work.

I confess that...that I am getting money back on my tax return (thank you RRSP contributions!) and really want to spend some of it on new clothes instead of putting it all back into RRSP's.

I confess that...I watched the finale of The Bachelor even though I knew that Courtney was going to win and that it'd be a train wreck. They are so awkward and boring! Loved seeing Ashley and JP on the after the rose.

{weekend recap}

This weekend was fabulous! Between some good workouts, time spent with friends and the gorgeous weather, I am sad to see this weekend go. 


I've decided to recap my weekend in pictures this week. The only thing I didn't take pictures of is our dinner date with Alison, Justin & Cruz. Whenever we get together, we never take pictures...really need to fix that!




















1. Finally cleaned out our pantry. It was getting pretty messy in there, so it feels good to have it in order again.


2. My poor hands after Saturday's workout at CrossFit! That was all from my toes to bar attempts


3. Painted my toe nails finally on Friday night. Plus bare feet on our deck in March is pretty fabulous!

2. Harley loves the bathtub in that he likes to lick the water from the tap. Such a silly dog!

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! Sorry that I've been pretty quiet this week. I was out of town for work on Wednesday and then just felt like I didn't have much to say. Nothing much is new around here...just going to CrossFit, walking Harley, making dinner, sleep, etc and repeat. 


This weekend we are:

  • enjoying the gorgeous weather! It is supposed to be 8C both days, which is fabulous for March in Alberta.
  • going to a crossfit class. Mr.D has finished his intro class and has been coming with me to the regular classes. A couple who CrossFit's together, stays together right?!
  • going for dinner at Alison & Justin's. I know Harley is looking forward to seeing his girlfriend and having a run around in the back yard

Tuesday motivation

Yesterday was one of those days where I could feel a headache brewing all day. By the time I got home, all I wanted to do was lay on the couch and blow off my workout. But after a thirty minute lay down, some Advil and some scrambled eggs, I was ready to head to my CrossFit class. The workout didn't seem too bad when I had looked online at it, but boy was I wrong! That workout kicked my butt. Times three. The workout was:


Five rounds for time

15 knees to elbows
30 overhead walking lunges with 25lb plate
15 clapping pushups {scaled to pushups}
30 dumbbell deadlifts with 20lb db's in each hand

It left me a puddle of sweat! More sweat than I knew was possible to come from myself. Another girl and I were talking as we warmed up that as hard as the workouts can be, there are very few times that we regretted actually doing the workout. Sometimes getting to the CrossFit box is half the work! Once you are there, others motivate you to push yourself and complete the workout.

{weekend recap}

Monday, Monday, Monday. How I am never happy that you continue to show up week to week. Especially since you are supposed to bring 10-30cm of snow with you over the next 24 hours. Not cool!


This weekend was pretty quiet for us, but it was perfect :) It included:

  • A 7k run with Harley on Saturday. It was a gorgeous, although a bit windy, day out. Can you tell by the smile on his face that he enjoyed it?


  • Did some baking on Sunday which included cookies and banana muffins. Love homemade stuff!















  • went to two crossfit classes which kicked my butt. In a good way of course!
  • watched the movie Tower Heist. Wouldn't recommend you watch it. 
  • took Harley for a long walk on Sunday. Although it had snowed the night before, it was a sunny and gorgeous walk

Three Things Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone! One more day and it's the freaking weekend :) 

Okay, here's my three random things for this fine Thursday:

{one} A co-worker brought in cinnamon buns with icing that were still warm from the oven this morning. Of course it screamed my name and said eat me, eat me! So I listened. So worth it.

{two} I won a giveaway for a 1BandID from Steve in a Speedo?!'s blog. I don't have very good luck with winning stuff, so I am excited that I won. Thanks Steve! And if you don't read his blog, you better go now. He's hilarious.

{three} We are having a baby shower at work for a co-worker today, which means even more treats. One day won't hurt me right? I also made a pinterest inspired craft for the shower, so I'll have to do another 'I pinned it, so I did it' post.
