He said, she said

I saw this fun post idea on Caroline's blog yesterday and thought I would borrow the idea, but put my own spin on it. I borrowed some of the questions from Caroline's post, but also threw in a couple of my own and had myself and Mr.D answer them.

{one} How long have we been married?
L: 2 years and six months
B: 2.5 years

{two} When and where did we meet?
L: February 2007 and in Cancun, Mexico
B: Mexico in 2007

{three} What is his worst habit?
L: asking me where something is before he looks or just takes a quick look
B: leaving a mess

{four} Where was our first kiss?
L: No idea where exactly, but in Cancun
B: Senior Frogs

{five} Who said I love you first?
L: Mr.D by accident
B: me

{six} If you were going to order us drinks, what would you get us?
L: vodka seven for me and a beer (traditional) for him
B: vodka seven for her and a beer for me

{seven} What was the worst meal we ever made?
L: It's a tie between the tofu and the lemon/wine stir fry
B: tofu

{eight} What is your favourite thing about her?
L: sense of humour
B: her eyes

{nine} What is his favourite movie?
L: 300
B: 300

{ten} What is his dream job?
L: stuntman
B: stuntman

{eleven} What is her biggest pet peeve?
L: slow drivers in the fast lane or late people
B: messes or barking dogs

Well, we missed a few, but it was still fun to hear what Mr.D came up with :)

Let's eat!

I know that I love trying new recipes that other people have already tried, so I thought I would list some that Mr.D and I have tried lately.

Chicken fajita salad by Iowa Girl Eats

We tried this one last week and it was pretty darn easy and tasty! I think the best part of the recipe was the rub mix for the chicken. We will definitely be keeping that.

Superfood salad by Iowa Girl Eats

This is by far our favorite recipe that we've tried in a while. It's so easy, so tasty and the flavours are amazing! We've made it with both chicken and strip, and both are delicious.

Creamy tomato and rice soup

We found this one through the milk calendar that my mom sent to me and it was definitely not a keeper. It was easy to make, but the flavour just wasn't there. And it got worse on the second day.

Tell me: have you tried any new recipes lately?

Run for L'Arche: training week six

This week was a bit of juggle to get my runs in on the weekend because I had to be out of town for the weekend for a work related course. I definitely prefer running outside than on the track or the treadmill, but by the time my course was over there wasn't enough day light to run outside.

If I had a million dollars

I was struggling for blog post topics again, and was thinking what I would do if I won a million dollars and my post idea was born. So, let's play a game today everyone. If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it? Besides the practical stuff like paying off your mortgage, etc.

If I had a million dollars...
  • I'd buy a house just like Emily Thorne's house on Revenge. If you haven't seen the show, Google search it for the pictures. Such a gorgeous house plus it's right on the beach
  • I'd go on a shopping spree and buy things that I would never think to buy myself. Like everything I loved in Lululemon or the most expensive pair of boots.
  • I'd take time off work and go traveling around the world
  • I'd throw a fun and over the top party for my friends where everyone would get a hump back whale {bonus points if you get that joke}
  • I'd hire a personal hair, make up and clothing stylist
  • I'd take my family and friends on a fabulous trip to somewhere warm and sunny
  • I'd buy myself and Mr.D a fabulous car
Tell me: what would you do with your million dollars?

Highlights of the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Today is actually a GREAT Monday because I am off today. Thank you Alberta for having Family Day. I will never complain about a day off :)

This weekend was great! We had zero plans and that was perfect.

1. We dog sat a friend's dog on Friday and Saturday. Harley and her were so funny together
2. I took Harley for a walk on Sunday. Too bad the warmer weather from Saturday didn't stick around!
3. Mr.D and I went to CrossFit on Sunday. Tough but good workout!

We also watched  A LOT of the show Revenge. I had heard lots of people talking about it, but had never gotten into it until this weekend. Damn, is it ever good!

Other than that, I went for my long run of 16km on Saturday, we went to the mall and just hung out around the house. A perfect weekend :)

Three Things Thursday

Well, happy Valentine's Day everyone! Mr.D and I don't do anything for it because let's be honest....it's just a day for companies to make money and tell us that we have to buy our significant other chocolates, cards, etc. I'd rather have Mr.D buy me flowers or other things randomly throughout the year rather than on one specific day. That's just me though :) And kind of funny.....we got engaged on Valentine's Day four years ago now. Where has time gone?!

I haven't done one of these in a while, so it's time for a would you rather theme for TTT. And of course I've thought of some awesome questions. Here we go...

{one} would you rather for one full year be morbidly obese or be homeless? After the year was up, you will go back to your normal body or home.

This is a tough one for me....on one hand, it'd be sweet to just eat bad food and not feel bad about it, but it would also suck to feel so terrible about yourself and not be able to run, walk up stairs, etc. It would also suck to be homeless though too.

{two} would you rather lose your eyebrows or your eyelashes? And you can't replace either of them.

As funny as it might look without eyebrows, I'd say eyebrows. I love my eyelashes!

{three} would you rather lose an arm or a leg?

Another tough one for me because it'd be hard to lots of stuff either way, but it'd be hard to do your hair, etc without an arm. But without a leg, it'd be hard to run and I'd miss running.

Let's hear your answers!

Run for L'Arche: training week four

Another great week of training and weather is done. Time seriously needs to slow down! I've been meaning to mention it, but last year I did a series of posts for those who are thinking about running their first half marathon. You can find the posts here, here and here. If you know of anyone thinking about running a half marathon, hopefully the posts are helpful for them :)

Monday 2/4
  • 4.3km walk with Harley
  • CrossFit workout
Tuesday 2/5
  • 5.43km run {5:39/km pace} with Harley

Wednesday 2/6
  • 1km row
  • CrossFit workout
Thursday 2/7
  • 5.45km run {5:15km/pace} at lunch
  • 4.2km walk with Harley
Friday 2/8
  • rest day as we were traveling after work
Saturday 2/9
  • 12.8km run {5:55km/pace} in the Edmonton river valley with Harley. I was feeling pretty tired on this run and it was pretty snowy on the pathways
Sunday 2/10
  • 3.6km walk with Harley
Totals:
Running- 23.7km
Walking- 12km

Overall, another great week of training. For being out of town on the weekend, I am pretty happy that I was able to fit in my run.

Struggling and running related questions

Besides blogging about what we did on the weekend or how my training is going for the Run for L'Arche half marathon, I am struggling to find stuff to blog about. It's not that I don't want to blog, it's just that I can't think of anything to blog about. Do you ever go through periods like this? The blog might just be quiet for a little while longer so I can get my blogging mojo back.

But, I do have a question for my American readers (or Canadians who shop on-line)....where is the best priced place to buy running shoes? My MIL is in Phoenix right now, so I am hoping to either ship some to her or get her to pick me up a pair from a store in town. I usually run in the Asics gel cummulus, which are $149.99 in Canada at the Running Room. Hoping to pick up a new pair or two to get me through marathon training.

On another running related note, I bought this Camelbak and hoping to try it out on my long run on the weekend. I have never run with one before, but couldn't handle the water belt constantly riding up my hips. Hoping this works out for me. Has anyone run with one before?

Since we are talking about running, I had a great workout last night at CrossFit. It was one of those workouts where the sweat started right away and just didn't stop pouring out of me. The workout was:

5 rounds of using 45lbs
1 min SDLHP
1 min  OHS
1 min push jerk
1 min rest

Okay, that's all I've got for today. So, exciting I know!

Highlights of the weekend

Well, we sure had a busy weekend! Lots of driving, lots of friends and lots of fun :)

For being out of town this weekend, I was still able to fit in some baking/cooking. On Friday night, I made chocolate chip cookies for my FIL's birthday. Then on Sunday when we got home, I made a new recipe for dirty rice and zuchini mini quiches. Both were pretty good!

I took two pictures from the wedding that we went to on Saturday, and this is one of them. I wore my $2 dress and loved it! The wedding was held at the Enjoy Centre in St.Albert, which was a neat place for a wedding. It's also a green house/nursery and I think there is a spa there too. The wedding was a lot of fun, though someone was hung over the next morning and it wasn't me ;)

Other than the wedding and baking/cooking, I took Harley with me on a 13km run on Saturday morning and we met some friends for lunch on Sunday.

A busy, but fun weekend!

Randoms for your Wednesday

Happy hump everyone! One day closer to the weekend :) I really had no idea what to post about today, so you are getting a bunch of my random thoughts. You are welcome :)
  • First, I want to wish the wonderful Lisa a very happy birthday today! Make sure you stop by her blog to wish her a happy birthday :)
  • I had a craving for pumpkin granola bars last night, so I decided to try out a recipe that I found. Well, it was a big fat fail. They tasted so gross, so straight to the garbage they went. I found another recipe, and was waiting for them to cool when I wrote this post. I'll have to let you know how they turned out.
  • Sometimes when I look at pictures on Instagram, I just have to shake my head. Some people make me think that if you don't take a picture of your workout, heart rate monitor, stats, workout clothes, etc then the workout didn't count. Sometimes it can be motivating, but other times it's just a little too much for me.
  • Speaking of workout clothes, I ordered this fine top from Lululemon on Sunday. I had two gift cards burning a hole in my pocket, so I finally found something that I wanted.

  • I just finished reading a book called The Final Piece by Maggi Myers and dang, it was a good book. Parts of it were hard to read as it dealt with sexual abuse, but it was a great book. Definitely recommend it.
Tell me something random happening for you this week.

Highlights of the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? We had nothing planned for our weekend, and it was perfect :)

1. Harley on our gorgeous and sunny walk on Sunday
2. Tried out the mapmyrun app for our walk

1. The hard CrossFit WOD that I did on Sunday. It was killer!
2. The gorgeous sunset on Friday night
3. Tried a new recipe yesterday. I made chicken gumbo soup from Iowa Girl Eats. So yummy!

Not pictured is the run that I went on with a friend from CrossFit (Hi Erica!) on Saturday. It was nice to run with a friend and chat the entire time. It made the kilometers go by quickly.

Oh, I forgot to show you guys a picture of the $2 dress that I got the weekend my mom was in town. Here you go:

I am thinking that I'll wear it next weekend for a wedding we are going to with my wedding jewellery and shoes.
