Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Another snowy weekend's almost spring right? Please say yes.

Let's see what I was up to this weekend:
  • started watching Suits on Netflix. I had heard a couple of people talking about it, and it's pretty good so far.
  • More T25 workouts
  • cuddles and hang outs with Harley
  • a long run on Saturday, which Erica and her cute baby belly joined me for 6kms of. After our run, we grabbed lunch at the Lazy Loaf and Kettle. We both had soup, which was needed after another windy run!
  • the rest of the weekend was spent cleaning the house, getting groceries and hanging out
  • oh and Mr.D finally came home! He had been gone for over a week, so it was nice to finally have him home again :)

Muffin recipe, overalls, cookies and snow

I've got a bunch of random things to talk about today, so that's what you are getting :)

1. Heather asked for my egg muffin recipe, so I thought I would share it. 

  • 8 large eggs
  • mushrooms
  • peppers
  • your choice of cheese
  • spinach
  1.  Preheat your oven to 375
  2. Chop up your choice of veggies and stir fry for a couple of minutes until tender. Chop up spinach and add to your pan until tender.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whip the eggs together.
  4. Chop or grate your choice of cheese 
  5. Spray your muffin tin with baking spray and then put the veggies, then eggs and then cheese in. 
  6. Bake for 20 minutes and then let cool in the muffin tins. Once cool, store in a container or ziploc bags. I reheat them for 45 seconds and they are perfect for breakfast during the week.
2. I was looking at stuff on on Kijiji last night and came across this beauty:

 Oh yes, those are overalls for a grown up that were described as trendy and stylish. Did I miss the memo that a grown woman should wear these?!

3. I was craving tim bits so bad yesterday! So I came home and make monster cookies instead. Who is coming over to help me eat them?!

4. Not sure if you heard or not, but it's snowing here. Mother Nature is playing a cruel joke on us!

5. I have a sudden desire for a pair of blue workout crops. No luck on the lulu website. Anyone have any ideas of where to find a pair that are reasonably priced or don't cost an arm and leg for shipping?

Run for L'Arche half marathon: race recap

Aka the race that I almost PR'd without even trying to.

After running this race last year, I knew that I had to run it again. It's very well organized and has some amazing volunteers on the course. It also fit really well into my marathon training plan, which was more fun than just going out and running 21.1kms by myself :)

I picked my race package up on the Wednesday before the race. I work really close to downtown, so I just ran to pick it up during my lunch hour. I ended up having to leave some of the goodies behind (I only brought a small Camelbak with me), so my package included my number, long sleeve t-shirt and a Clifbar. 

The race starts at 10am, which is awesome. Lots of time to sleep in, drive downtown and find parking. I ended up getting there around 9:30am, which gave me time for a quick bathroom stop and then headed out to the start line. It was mighty cold and windy that morning, but I was hoping the wind would die down. I had no goals going into the race, but knew that I wanted to race it as per Solana's instructions. 

The course is very flat and heads out from Eau Claire and turns out around at the tennis courts at Shouldice Park. 

Kilometer one to five

Feeling pretty good at this part and decided to keep going to see how long I could keep up this pace. 

Kilometer six to ten

Still feeling pretty good, but the pathways turned to snow and knew the turn around was coming up. My plan was to stop and eat my gel near the turn around

Kilometer eleven to fifteen

Just after the turn around, the wind picked up and it felt like I was moving backwards and not forwards! It was so hard mentally that I started walking more often.

Kilometer sixteen to twenty one

Total time: 1:55:06 (average pace of 5:26/km)

If that wind wasn't there in the second half, I know that I would have gotten a new PR. Or if I paid more attention to my Garmin and took less walk breaks. Oh well, pretty darn happy with that time considering I am in the middle of marathon training. 

After the race, I grabbed water, chocolate milk and some delicious pancakes! My stomach wasn't 100%, so I didn't end up eating all of them. It was a bit off for the rest of the afternoon, but was fine the next day.

Overall, pretty happy with how the race went and will definitely be running it again next year!

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! For not having many plans, this weekend sure went by quickly. Let's see what I was up to this weekend:

  • this cute face spent a lot of time trying to get me to play with him. Good thing he's cute :)
  • prepped and made egg muffins for my breakfast during the week. They are easy to make and keep me full for a while, which is a big thing!
  • ran the Run for L'Arche half marathon on Saturday morning. Full race recap to come later this week :)
  • watched Bridesmaids on Saturday night. Forgot how hilarious that movie is!
  • went shopping with Alison and Delainey on Sunday. The shopping gods weren't on my side, but did find a few things.

Five on Friday

{one} happy Friday everyone! This week has been busy at work, so I am so ready for some down time and relaxing.

{two} I'm glad that I'm not the only one that is struggling to come up with ideas to post about. It'd be so much easier if there was a giant pot of ideas that we could pick a random one out from.

{three} I'm running my first race of the year's the Run for L'Arche. Looking forward to seeing what I can do and see people there. That being said, who else is running it?

{four} Alison and I are going shopping on Sunday and I'm really hoping the shopping gods are on my side. I really need some new clothes, but haven't had any luck lately.

Random thoughts for a Wednesday

Besides posting what we were up to on the weekend and my weekly training recap, I'm struggling to come up with stuff to blog about lately. So, what do you want to read about? What I do on a Tuesday night (made dinner, do dishes, went to MRU to run, showered and watched The Following. Fun stuff!), what scares me the most, etc? Do tell.

In the mean time, you are getting a bunch of random thoughts from me today.
  • it snowed big time yesterday morning, which made the commute not so fun. The snow was thankfully gone by mid morning. Winter is almost over right?
  • am I the only one who hasn't seen Frozen?
  • I followed a girl on my drive to work yesterday that was putting on a full face of make up...yes while driving. That's safe, right?
  • just over a month until I go home to see my family for a long weekend
  • why do dogs have silent, but oh so deadly farts?
  • I miss my long hair lately

  • 4.2km walk with Harley
  • at home workout from Peanut Butter Runner of the 1000 rep workout. I managed to complete 7 rounds. Thanks Amber for the recommendation.
March 11, 2014
  • 8.11km {5:25/km avg pace} run with Harley. We ran a bunch of different hills instead of running the same one over and over.
March 12, 2014
  • CrossFit workout of:
A. Work up to 3RM of deadlift in 10 minutes (170lbs x3)
B. 50 handstand push ups- worked on kipping them

March 13, 2014
  • Interval run 1on/1off x 10 + 30on/90off x 5
    • 5.64kms total
  • 4.2km walk with Harley

  • rest day as I didn't get home late

  • 5.0km walk with Harley

  • 26.0km {6:02/km avg pace} long run. This was another tough run for some reason. The weather was warm, but so, so windy which I think had a lot to do with it. I'm also finding the high distance mentally tough to do alone. So if you know of any runners in Calgary that are training around 5:45-6min pace, let me know!
 Overall, not a bad week of training. Just need to get my head into a better space for my long runs and hopefully they start improving.

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Even though we had no plans, this weekend seemed to slip by in the blink of an eye. Let's see what we were up to:
  • I was in Edmonton for work on Friday and my flight was majorly delayed coming back due to a mechanical issue. I didn't end up getting home until 10pm :(
  • Saturday morning I decided to sleep in and have a lazy morning. I took Harley for a long walk in the sunshine, then showered and hung out.
  • in the afternoon, Mr.D and I went to a bike shop, picked up something I bought on Kijiji and then went out for a late lunch/early dinner (let's call it linner) at Craft, which was really good! 
  • the rest of the night was spent reading my book....all of that time in the airport on Friday helped me finish three books this weekend! Most I've read in a while too.
  • Sunday I headed out for my long run. The rest of the day was spent doing laundry, napping and cleaning up around the house.

Five on Friday

Happy Friday everyone! This week felt extra long for some reason, so I am so ready for the weekend.

{one} when I got my hair done the other week, my hair dresser used this product on my hair and I loved it! I ended up going to Sephora to pick up some. It gives you so much volume, but it does make your hair feel a little heavy/gunky. Not in a bad way though!

{two} we made this for dinner last night. We've made it a lot and every time it turns out so good!

{three} I did hand stand pushups on Wednesday night at CrossFit and did something to my shoulder. Anyone want to give me or buy me a massage? 

{four} we don't have anything planned for our weekend except doing my long run. Kind of looking forward to it :)

  • Long run of 30.35kms {6:04/km avg pace}. This was not my run at all. From about kilometer three, I thought about turning around and going home. How bad is that?! But, I knew it would suck to have to just go out and restart on Sunday, so I got it done. It took a bunch of walking breaks throughout, but I got it done.
March 9, 2014
  • 7.0km walk with Harley. It was such a gorgeous day finally, so I couldn't pass up the chance to go for a long walk.
  • CrossFit workout of:
A1. Box jumps 5 x 5 sets (up to 28")
A2: Clean and jerk 2 x 5 sets (up to 72lbs)
Overall, not a bad week of training minus my crappy long run on Saturday. Fingers crossed next week is better!

Highlights of the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? Minus the time change, mine was pretty darn good :) Let's see what we were up to:
  • I stopped at the mall on Friday night as I had a Lululemon gift card burning a hole in my pocket. I bought a pair of shorts and a tank top
  • went for my long run of 30kms on Saturday. Beautiful weather, but not a great run
  • in the afternoon, Mr.D's parents came into town for the night. We went out for Chinese food and then hung out at home. Pretty sure we were all in bed before 10pm..crazy night around here ;)
  • Sunday was another beautiful day, so after a CrossFit class I took Harley for a long walk in the sunshine.
  • we also started watching The Following. Such a creepy but good show!

Happy Thursday everyone! We are supposed to be getting 5-8cm of snow today, but then the temperature goes up to at least +7C on the weekend...Mother Nature, you are a crazy lady! I can do without the snow though if you are taking requests :)

Week five of training has come and gone and the theme of it would be: COLD! It was so bitterly cold for a good portion of this week. Fingers crossed this is our last cold spell for a while.

  • 28.2km {6:37/km pace} run. It was way too cold outside to run, so I went to MRU to run on the treadmill and track. I did 10kms on the treadmill, then 10kms on the track and finished it up on the treadmill. Slower than normal, but glad I just finished it. Teen Mom 2 on the treadmill definitely got me through it!

Highlights of the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Did you manage to stay warm if you were one of the unlucky ones hit by this freezing cold weather? If I could go into hibernation right now, that would be perfect!

{friday} I had a hair appointment after work, and highlighted my hair for the first time in a couple of years! Feels good to be blonde(r) again. I wasn't done until after 7pm, so we just hung out at home the rest of the night.

{saturday} It was wayyyy too cold to run outside, so I headed to Mount Royal University to try and get my 28km run in. I ended up getting it all completed by switching up between the treadmill and the track. Took longer than normal, but glad it's done and over with. After my run, I headed home to shower and get cleaned up. One of Mr.D's friends was in town, so I met up with them at Original Joe's for an early dinner. After dinner, we headed back home to hang out at home in front of the fire and wrapped up in blankets. So cold!

{sunday} In the morning, I braved the cold to go get some groceries. We were supposed to have lunch with some friends, but they didn't end up coming into town. So, the rest of the afternoon was spent baking some cookies, making soup and doing laundry. I also snuck in a quick workout at home and my training partner was slacking on the motivation! ;)
