{baby D} week fourteen

Just a friendly reminder that I'm posting my weekly recaps a week behind

I'm not sure if I will do the typical weekly recap, but right now I don't feel like doing it. So, I'll just talk a bit about the week before.
  • TIRED! I don't know if it was a growth spurt or that I finally felt like working out again, but man, I was dead tired by the end of the week. I napped on Friday night, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. Not that I'm complaining at all though ;)
  • Workouts- many walks with Harley, one at home CrossFit workout, one run, one swim and actually went to a CrossFit class.
  • a few headaches, but not as bad as earlier
  • Pink Blush Maternity was having a great sale on, so I ordered two tank tops, a long sleeved shirt and a maxi dress for a great price
  • speaking of clothing, it's hard to find stuff for my boobs! They've grown like crazy and I swear I feel like I have melons strapped to my chest.
  • trying to eat better as I gained a couple too many lbs in the first 12 weeks. Not working out and eating lots of carbs will do that to you :)

Looking forward

{Today} I'm looking forward to having my after dinner nap and then possibly taking Harley for a run later on. It's HOT here this week, so no walk or run right after work for us.

{This week} I'm looking forward to meeting up with Becky and Kaella (plus their little guys) on Saturday at the zoo. I've actually never been to the Calgary Zoo...strange hey? I'm also looking forward to the prenatal massage that Mr.D booked for me on Sunday. My lower back and hips have been killing me lately, so I can't wait!

{This month} Well, since July is almost over, I'll talk about August. I'm looking forward to my two weeks of holidays which we have nothing planned so far. I'm also looking forward to our nieces 2nd birthday party and our next ultrasound on the 26th!

{This year} I'm looking forward to going to San Fran with the girls in September, going home to Ontario in October and of course getting closer to meeting our baby!

Tell me: what are you looking forward to?

Scenes from the weekend

{friday} the weather was crappy on Friday and when I got home, Mr.D was having a nap. I made myself some dinner and then took a two hour nap. We are party animals over here ;)

{saturday} Mr.D was up super early to go to Fernie biking with Justin, so it was just Harley and I for the day. Someone insisted on getting up at 7:30am, so I vacuumed and tidied up. I look over and Harley was sleeping, so I decided I better take a nap too! After our nap, I took Harley for a long walk and then headed to CrossIron Mills. The rest of the day was spent just hanging out and watching tv.

{sunday} when I got up, Mr.D had gone for a motor bike ride, so I headed to CrossFit with Erica. I hadn't been there in forever, so it was fun to go with Erica one last time before her baby arrives :) After CrossFit, I took Harley for another long walk and then took another nap. Napping should have been the theme of my weekend ;) I made these cookies and dang, they are good. I also picked up the Belly Laughs book yesterday at the mall...has anyone read it? It's a quick but hilarious read!

Tell me: how was your weekend?

Five on Friday

{one} happy Friday everyone! This week felt like it just dragged by....maybe it's because I am counting down until my holidays in August.

{two} I went to the YMCA last night to swim laps (decided to start since it's great exercise and good for baby), but oh man. I forgot how badly people have no idea how to swim laps properly. There was one guy who went up the left side then veered to the middle and all over the place. Or there was the guy who stopped 3/4 of the way through the lap with me following and just starting walking. Fun times.

{three} Mr.D had three friends here for the past two days, and oh boy, that's a lot of testosterone in our house. Please let our baby be a girl ;)

{four} it's a very gloomy day out this morning and I wish I was still at home in bed. Where is the magical lamp to rub so I could make a wish to go home?

{five} have a great weekend everyone!

{baby d}: weeks four to thirteen

  • had blood work done on May 7th and the doctor's office called the next day to ask me to come in
  • went into the office on May 13 and my doctor said there was a low amount of HCG in my blood (15 mIU/ml). He said that I could either be pregnant or could miscarry. He sent me for another blood test, which I did right after I left the office. Spend the whole day worrying and wondering if I am actually pregnant. Called Brian at work to let him know what was going on. I was also due to get my period this day, but it obviously never showed up!
  • my doctor called me on my way home from work and said "congratulations, you are pregnant!" My HCG levels went up to 400, which indicated that I am in fact pregnant (anywhere from 4-5 weeks). Made an appointment in the next few weeks to go back in to see him.
  • Brian had gone for a bike ride, so I had to wait until he got home. I had set up a onesie and the pregnancy test on the bed thinking he'd go upstairs to change. He asked me if my doctor called, so I had to lie and say no, not yet. He finally went upstairs and saw the onesie and test and we both were in a little bit of shock. He also came home with a Mcflurry because he had a feeling I was him! :)
  • I really didn't think I was pregnant, but two weekends before, I had fallen asleep at 9pm on the Friday night and then slept in late the next day and napped too. I also had the sorest boobs ever! I wasn't sure if those were signs or just PMS symptoms.
  • Feeling: tired, headaches, excited
  • a few headaches this week
  • some cramping
  • starting to get tired! Had a nap after work on Tuesday
  • hunger started to kick in at the end of the week. Couldn't stay full!
  • had a doctor's appointment to get some information. More blood work. Waiting for the maternity clinic that will follow me through my pregnancy to call to schedule my 12 week appointment. Seems so far away!
    • headaches
    • tired
    • no energy or desire to workout
    • started feeling nauseous at the end of the week
    • baby took it's first airplane ride!
    • told our parents and brothers
    • nauseous
    • tired
    • sore boobs
    • scheduled our 12 week appointment at the maternity clinic and our first ultrasound
    •  two day headaches- had to take a pain killer
    • nauseous in the morning
    • still so hungry!
    • tired
    • a couple headaches
    • will I ever stop eating?!
    • hungry
    • peeing all the time
    • trip to Kamloops and telling my cousin/best friend

    • headaches
    • tired

    • got to hear the heartbeat (155) the 12 week appointment! So amazing.
    • first trimester screening ultrasound. Everything looked perfect, baby was measuring 12w5d and I am 12w2d. Heartbeat was 157
    • headaches
    • telling Mr.D's close friends in person
    • finally sharing our news on the blog and Instagram

    Common questions and answers

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your comments yesterday on my post and on Instagram! Mr.D and I are so excited and I'm happy that I can finally talk about it in the open now!

I apologize as this week of posts is going to be baby related, but next week should be back to normal. I thought I would answer a few of the common questions today.

    When am I due?
    • January 20, 2015, so I am 14 weeks along as of today
Will we find out what we are having?
    • Yes, as long as the baby cooperates. I always said that I wouldn't find out until the birth, but I'm too much of a planner not to find out
    How am I feeling?
    • I will not complain because I got away with minimal morning sickness and no puking. I was nauseous for a few weeks, but it thankfully passed. I have just been tired, hungry all the time and have been getting lots of headaches lately. Otherwise, good :)
    Is your family excited?
    • definitely! Both of our families have known since I was about six weeks along (it just happened  I was going to be in Ontario then and wanted to tell my family in person)
    How did you find out?
    • before I tell you the full story, I want to say that Mr.D and I were extremely lucky and were able to conceive right away (even sooner than we might have expected) and my heart goes out to those that are still trying to conceive
    • on Wednesday May 7th, I had gone in for routine blood work in preparation for us to start trying for a family. The next day, my doctor's office called and asked me to come in. I went in the following Tuesday and my doctor said that there was a chance that I was very early pregnant (there was HGC in my blood) or would have a miscarriage shortly. He sent me for more blood work, which I did right after I left the doctor's office.  My doctor called at 5pm that night to tell me that my HGC levels had significantly increased and I was definitely pregnant! I had a sneaking suspicion that I was, but it was still a bit of a surprise (a good one of course!)
    Have you had an ultrasound?
    • yes. We chose to do the first trimester combined screening, which means that we were able to have an ultrasound during my 12th week {you otherwise don't have an ultrasound until 18 weeks in Alberta}. It was a relief to know that everything looked good with baby and also so cool to see! We also got to hear the heart beat the day before at the maternity clinic, which was amazing. Nothing beats that!
Okay, I'll be back to tomorrow to catch up on my weekly updates :)

    Future plans

Mr.D and I have talked a lot about our future plans lately. Should we take a road trip this summer, should we move, should we buy a new car, etc? The one thing that I know for sure is that we know what we are doing in January 2015:

More information coming this week :)

    Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! It was a gorgeous weekend here, so no complaining from me.

{friday} Mr.D and I went to The Chopped Leaf to try it out for was surprisingly pretty good! After dinner, we took Harley for a short walk and then hung out watching tv. Oh and Mr.D surprised me with this:

I had been complaining forever about my old one (it kept messing up on me), so he bought me a new one to stop my complaining ;)

{saturday} Mr.D left to go biking with some friends, so it was just Harley and I for Saturday and Sunday. I took Harley for a short run in the morning before it got too hot out. After our run, I headed out to meet up with a friend for brunch at oeb. It was crazy busy there! We ended up having to wait over an hour, but it was so worth it. The rest of the day was spent making a quick stop at the mall, watching a movie, painting my nails and just enjoying the night.

{sunday} in the morning, I took Harley for a long walk before it got too hot out. The rest of the day was spent mowing the lawn, throwing the ball for Harley, enjoying the sunshine and getting groceries.

A pretty quiet, but relaxing weekend!

    Getting to know you

I was searching Pinterest last night for some post ideas and came across a set of questions that would be fun to get to know my readers better {original set of questions found here}. So answer one, three, none or all...I'd love to hear your answers!

    2. do you have any weird phobias?
    3. what side of the bed do you sleep on?
    4. which way do you face in the shower?
    5. left eye or right eye first when you are putting on mascara?
    6. do you have any weird body skills?
    7. what did you used to wear that you thought was cool, but now you realize it wasn't?

    Let's hear your answers!

    Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! It was a gorgeous weekend here. Let's see what we were up to:

{friday} I took Harley for a walk, had dinner and then we went to McDonald's for an ice cream cone. They have such good ice cream!

{saturday} Mr.D was up early and went for a bike ride, so I took Harley for a walk in the morning. Around lunch, we went to Costco to meet up with my co-worker to buy supplies for the Stampede BBQ my work is putting on. Once everything was bought, we made a quick trip to my office to unload everything. The rest of the afternoon was spent hanging out in the sun reading. Later that night, we headed to The Keg for dinner. They sent my steak out very overdone for my liking, so they quickly replaced it. They also took my meal off the bill which was super nice! After dinner, we took a short walk along the Bow River. It was a gorgeous night out and couldn't pass up the weather!

{sunday} in the morning, Mr.D went biking again with Justin, so Alison, Delainey and I went to the Bearspaw market. It ended up being a beautiful morning out! We both picked up some yummy veggies. After the market, I took Harley for a walk and stopped at my friend Erica's house. She recently moved back into our neighbourhood, so it was great to catch up with her and see her new place.

A perfect, yet oddly busy weekend.

    Five on Friday

{one} happy Friday everyone! Even though I only worked three days this week, it felt super long for some reason. Looking forward to another beautiful weekend weather wise here.

{two} speaking of weather, oh my it's been hot in Calgary for the past couple of days (it's been around 26-29C). I'm not complaining though because it beats -30C any day!

{three} last night, Nicole had myself, Lindsey, Alison and Ashley (and babies of course!) over for a little get together since Ashley was in town with her family. It was great to meet you Ashley and of course see the other girls too!

{four} we have no plans to go to the Stampede....anyone else going? If you go, bring me back some mini doughnuts :)

{five} have a great weekend everyone!

    A long overdue post!

I didn't mean to be so quiet on the blog front, but life got busy for a second! But, I'm hoping to get back into. Let's start with last Thursday night.

My brother was scheduled to fly in that night at 9:30pm, but his flight ended up being delayed by 4 hours. Then Lauren emailed saying her and her husband were stuck in Calgary for the night due to a missed flight. We ended up meeting up for a beer {thanks again guys!} and some catching up, which was really nice. I hadn't seen Lauren since Victoria over three years ago. And it was fun meeting and getting to know her husband :)

After Mr.D so kindly picked my brother up at 2am from the airport, we were off on Friday afternoon to make the drive to Kamloops. My cousin was getting married, so we figured why not road trip out there (it's about a 7.5 hour drive). We arrived on Friday night and ended up going to the henna party, which is totally not what I thought it was going to be! It ended up being a party with food, booze and dancing and some henna. Far from what I had in mind! I did get my first henna though which was fun.

Saturday we had opted out from going to the wedding events (the ceremony was on the Sunday), so we spent the morning going for a hike with my other cousin. There was lots of sliding and scaling of rocks on this hike, but it gave us some gorgeous views! We also lucked out and the sky clouded over or else we would have been cooking!

The rest of the day was spent going to a couple bike shops, grabbing food and hanging out.

Sunday was the actual ceremony and it was quite the day! It started out at 9am with us signing and dancing around my cousin {who was in a car} towards the conference centre and where the brides family was. The ceremony ended up going until after 12pm, so we had a bite to eat {they had a big lunch buffet} and then headed back to our room to hang out for a bit. Later in the afternoon, we headed to my other cousin's house for family pictures and beer pong {well, not for me since I don't drink :) }. The reception started at 6pm with cocktails and food, and then speeches, dancing, etc took place after that. The brides family definitely spared no expense on this wedding!

On Monday, my aunt and uncle had a small BBQ at their place. After enjoying some yummy food, we hit the road back to Calgary.

It was a fun weekend spending time with my brother and family!
