Scenes from the weekend

Another weekend that went too quickly. It was a good one though! Let's see what we did:

{friday} after Mr.D got off work, we packed up the SUV and headed to my in-laws house. Amelia did pretty good on the drive...she slept for 1.5 hours and woke up about 30 minutes before we got there. Luckily, I was able to entertain her and let her chew on an apple core and she was happy as a clam :) We arrived around 5:30pm and had dinner with Mr.D's parents before Mr.D and his brother headed out to the football game. I stayed behind to put Amelia to bed {who wanted nothing to do with it and took an hour to go down}. After she finally settled, I took Harley for a quick walk as he was antsy.

{saturday}  in the morning, Mr.D and his dad went for a motorcycle ride. When Amelia went down for her nap, my MIL and I made apple crisp {used this recipe that Alison made for us before} with apples from their tree in the backyard. Once the boys got home, we took the dogs for a walk in the river valley. In the afternoon, my BIL+ SIL + three nieces came over. Amelia fought her nap, so I ended up having to lay with her to finally get her to sleep. We had a yummy family dinner (wish we could do that more often!) and hung out for the evening.

{sunday}  we spent the morning hanging out at home as two of my nieces had a sleep over. My MIL made us all pancakes for breakfast and the boys went for another motorcycle ride. Around lunch, we packed everything up and made a quick visit to see Mr.D's grandma. After that, we made the drive back home. We had to make a pit stop as someone decided to poop through her diaper. Oh boy, it was a delightful one ;)

Hello weekend, mighty fine to see you here! Mr.D went back to work yesterday, so it's back to the three of us during the week. We miss him already!

The high of the week was having a couple of days with Mr.D before school started again and trying out the next level of Gymboree. Amelia loved it, but the days/times aren't the best for us.

The low of the week was Harley getting sick. He has a super sensitive belly and got something on our walk on Sunday. It started getting better, but then got worse so we were at the vet yesterday. Hopefully it's back to normal soon.

The best money I spent was signing Amelia and I up for a mom and baby aquasize class. I also had to order a new bathing suit that will hopefully be jumping around appropriate. Don't even get me started on how hard it is to find a two piece athletic style bathing suit.

The show we are watching is Bloodline. Still not sure what I think of this show, but still going to give it a try.

Have a great weekend everyone!

{amelia}: seven months

These pictures are getting harder and harder to do! Sitting her up was the easiest solution :)

You can find her past updates here:

One month
Two months
Three months
Four months
Five months
Six months

Weight/height: not sure on either, as she hasn't been weighed since her six month appointment. I'd guess she is over 17lbs now.

Hair/eyes: her hair keeps getting blonder and blonder! It's also starting to grow. Eyes are still very blue.

  • playing hide and seek
  • if you do silly dances for her
  • the tags on anything
  • jumping in the jolly jumper
  • leaning sideways to look at people when you are holding her
  • babbling/squeeling
  • bathtime

  • being tired
  • depending on the day, getting her diaper changed
  • having her face cleaned
Eating: still breastfeeding and a bottle of breast milk before bed (since we got home from Ontario, she has been fighting her bottle for some reason). We have also started to introduce more food. She's had: green beans, peas, carrots, blueberries, apples, prunes, peaches, chicken, avocado, banana, sweet potato.

Sleeping: before we left for Ontario, she started waking up between 3-5am and would only settle if I nursed her. I decided to up the amount of milk she gets before bed and that seemed to help. She didn't sleep very well in Ontario (probably so many new places and not our same routine) and I'm hoping to get her back on track now that we are home. She still goes down between 7-8pm (usually closer to 7pm) and has 3-4 naps per day. They range anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. She is a big tummy sleeper!

  • went on her third and fourth plane ride
  • got to experience the beach- eating sand included while in Ontario
  • went on the swings for the first time and loved it!
  • wears size 3 swaddlers during the day and size 3 baby dry at night
  • wears mostly 6 month onesies and pjs, but the pjs are starting to get too small
  • no teeth yet (but constantly putting stuff in her mouth) and no desire to crawl
  • loves to sit up and is getting stronger and not falling as much
  • is so curious and loves to watch everything going on around her

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Second to last weekend in August has gone by...where the heck did summer go?!

{friday} we woke up to pouring rain and cold weather! It was a miserable day out. In the late morning, Amelia and I headed out to meet Alison {and Delainey} and Nicole {and Audrey & Leo} for a playdate at an indoor play area. It was crazy busy in there, but Amelia loved watching all the kids. She's not quite big enough to fully enjoy it, but it was nice to get out of the house and see the girls. We headed home around noon and spent the afternoon hanging out at home. We decided to go out and grabbed Vietnamese food for dinner. The rain finally stopped after we put Amelia down, so I took Harley for a quick walk.

{saturday} after Amelia's morning nap, we went for a family 5km run. It wasn't the easiest after doing nothing for two weeks! In the afternoon when Amelia went down for her next nap, I mowed our jungle of a lawn and weeded. We didn't do much else for the rest of the day besides hang out at home and finish watching Broadchurch (didn't see that ending coming at all!).

{sunday} Mr.D and Justin brought back their bike date and took it to the next level by going to Fernie for the day and night (haha, they have the best wives ever right Alison?). They left around 7:30am, so it was just Amelia, Harley and I for the day. After Amelia's nap, we headed out to meet Alison and Delainey at Symon's Valley Market. Neither of us ended up buying anything, but we enjoyed the sunshine while Delainey went down the slide. We also returned a young boy to his parents who left him on the playground without supervision and almost seemed annoyed that we brought him back to them. It was the weirdest thing ever! After the market, I made a quick stop at Wal-Mart and then headed home to walk Harley in the sunshine. The afternoon was spent by all of us having a nap and someone waking up super grumpy from hers that she fell back asleep on me. I'm not complaining :)

Happy Friday everyone! It's supposed to be 11C and rain here today...yuck! I'm not ready for that kind of weather yet.

The high of my week was being back home (even though I miss my family- I know you'll be reading mom) and seeing girls from our baby group. It's crazy how the kids have grown and are all at different stages.

The low of my week was leaving my family in Ontario and the flight home. Let's just say it was a long 3.5 hours! Someone (aka Amelia) didn't want to sleep and would rather have squealed and screamed. I don't think I made any friends on that flight, haha.

The best money I spent was on nothing. Well, besides groceries to fill our empty fridge.

The things I'm thinking about are:
  • not that I want to think about fall/winter, but I need to buy a jacket for Amelia. Any suggestions? I also need footwear for her...what do you put on a baby that isn't walking yet? Is that a really silly question? Haha
  • how I really need to get back into working out- I didn't at all while we were in Ontario and need to get my motivation back
  • whether I should buy breathable crib liners/bumpers. Amelia moves around a lot and seems to end up with her feet/hands out when she falls asleep. If you have some, what kind do you have? Where did you get them from?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Summer holidays

Our summer holidays are over...well, not quite as Mr.D is still home with us until next week. But our trip to Ontario has come and gone and it went by too quickly! We were in Ontario for two weeks and it was great being with my family. We don't get to see them enough!

We did so much that I can't remember it all, so I'll do recap in point form style:
  • celebrated my mom's 60th birthday
  • had a photoshoot with my family as a birthday present to my mom. We recreated the pictures of Amelia and Charlie and can't wait to see them!
  • celebrated my brother's 25th birthday
  • spent time at my mom's cottage in Grand Bend. Amelia got to experience the beach and even tolerated the water
  • visited my dad & his wife and my aunt's
  • celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and went to out to dinner at Borealis {thanks again for baby sitting mom!}
  • hung out and played with toys with Charlie
  • went on the swings for the first time
    my brother and Amelia
    Amelia being a bully ;)
Happy girl on the beach!

Waiting for our fish & chips in Grand Bend

Sunset in Grand Bend

With my two aunts

Goofy times with my mom

Haha so much alike!

Such a great trip full of making memories!

Quick check in and a winner!

Hi everyone! I didn't mean to slack on blogging, but Amelia and I (Mr.D and Harley too) have been in Ontario for the last two weeks. We head home tonight and am already sad to go! We've had a great time seeing my family and enjoying the sunshine and hot, hot weather. I'm hoping to get back on a blogging schedule, but don't hold me to it! I've been reading blogs, but haven't commented so I promise to do that soon too!

I also wanted to let you know that Anna won my giveaway for the custom photo canvas. Congratulations Anna! I will send you an email shortly.

Summer reads

Before having Amelia, I was an avid reader and could easily finish a book within two days if I was super into it! Since having her, I find that I'm pretty tired by the end of the day and would rather scroll through social media (bad habit, I know!) and then go to sleep. After hearing a couple friends talk about the good books they have been reading, I decided that I really needed to dust off and charge my kobo so I could get back into it. I've read a couple books in the past two weeks, so I thought I would share them with you.

Left neglected by Lisa Genova

Mr.D's mom passed this one onto me as we had both read Still Alice and loved it. This book is about a career drive mom who is in a car accident that leaves her with a traumatic brain injury. It forces her to slow her life down, reconnect with her mom and realize that money and success aren't the only thing that matter in life.

I would rate it 3.5 out of 5

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

I've heard several people talk about this book, so decided to check it out for myself. It is set in Paris during the second world war and focuses on two sisters. It also focuses on the woman's war and what many women had to go through while their husbands/brothers/fathers were off to the front lines. I found this book super interesting and loved it!

I would rate it 4 out of 5

Come away with me by Karma Brown

My mom got this book from a book sale at work and passed it onto me. I wasn't super sure what it was about going into it, but ended up really enjoying it and not seeing the ending coming. It is about a young woman who is married with a baby on the way when tragedy strikes in the form of a car accident. Grief and depression overtake her, when she decides to take a six week trip. The trip is hopefully help heal her and move on with her life.

I would rate it 3.5 out of 5

Tell me: what have you read lately? Anything I need to add to my kobo?

{ookpix}: a review and giveaway

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through Facebook and noticed a post about a company that you can make photo books, canvases, etc with. I had never heard of this company before, so I clicked over to their website to check it out. The website is called ookpix and turns out that it is a Canadian company. All of their products are made in Canada and owned by Canadians. An even better thing about it? If you live in Calgary like I do, then you can go to their location and pick it up yourself without having to wait for it to be delivered to your mailbox.

After finding the website, I decided to take advantage of a sale that they had going on and ordered two photobooks. One of Amelia's newborn pictures and one from our Europe trip in 2013 (long overdue!!). Both books were easy to put together on their website with their already created layouts that just need you to drag and drop your pictures into. Each book comes with 20 pages standard and you can add more pages on for a small fee. The photobooks arrived a couple days later and we were both impressed with how they came out. Another awesome thing about the company? They offer free shipping on all of their products!

Ookpix offered me one of their products and after browsing their website, I decided to create another photobook for my mom as her birthday was coming up. I filled it with pictures of Amelia and Charlie from their photoshoot in April and their newborn days. It arrived less than a week later and my mom absolutely loved it!

Now, onto the good stuff! Ookpix has kindly offered to giveaway to one of my readers a 16x24 custom photo canvas ($110 value). I know that I wish I could enter as I have so many pictures that I'd love to turn into a canvas. This would also be a great idea for your summer holiday pictures that you are not sure what to do with!

Please note that this giveaway is only open to Canadian residents.

{happy 60th birthday}

Just a quick post to wish my mom a very happy 60th birthday! My mom is an outgoing (she likes to make friends with people no matter where we are), kind, caring, thinks she's funny (haha) and a loving grandmother. I think the best thing about my mom is how when she gets really laughing, she snorts. Sorry mom, it had to be said :)

Happy birthday mom!

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! It's a holiday here today, which means a long weekend for everyone. The best part of summer is definitely the long weekends!

{friday} we didn't do much in the morning until I got my act together and we headed to the mall. It was a hot day, so it was nice to get out of the house into air conditioning! I went looking for a bathing suit top and shorts, but no luck. I'm not ready for the fall clothes to be in stores already. After the mall, we stopped at Lic's for ice cream and a walk along the Bow river. Best part of summer!

{saturday} in the morning, Mr.D went for a bike ride (I think he was missing his biking partner, haha) so I took Harley and Amelia for a walk. Just before lunch, we decided to head down to the splash park at Riley Park as it was a gorgeous day. We brought a small tent/sun shelter we bought with us to try out and it was perfect. Amelia ended up falling asleep, so we got to lay in the sun and read our books. Perfection! Later that night, I headed to the airport to pick up my older brother who was here for a visit.

{sunday} in the morning, we just hung out at home catching up. Mr.D and my brother left later in the morning to check out a couple stores at the mall and along 17th avenue. While they were out and about, I took Amelia and Harley for a walk and then did some laundry. We spent the afternoon just hanging out and then Mr.D made us a delicious rib dinner.
