Highlights of 2015: {part two}

You can find part one here

July: nothing major happened this month- we did take Amelia swimming for the first time and she tried real food for the first time as well

August: we spent two weeks in Ontario with my family. While in Ontario, Mr.D and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and also had a photo shoot with my family. We also took a trip to Edmonton and got to spend time with our nieces.

September: we had a photoshoot with our baby group, started aquasize, went to the zoo with Brie & Sully, and went for a hike in the mountains with Alison + family.

October: Amelia celebrated her first Thanksgiving and Halloween, and my mom came for a visit

November: nothing major happened this month- Amelia did get to meet Santa for the first time though! She also figured out how to pull up on her own

December: Amelia and I took a trip to Ontario to see my family. She also got to experience her first Christmas!

We had quite the year! It was busy and trying at times, but I've loved getting to spend this last year with Amelia at home.

Wishing everyone all the best in the new year!

Highlights of 2015 {part one}

I know that every blogger is doing a recap of 2015, but I don't want miss out as I love looking back on them.  2015 for us was definitely the year of big changes to our life! I started off the year being very pregnant and we are finishing the year with an almost one year old...craziness! These changes were obviously good ones, but they were big ones! Amelia coming into our life has meant that we became parents, are responsible for another life and that our hearts grew so much bigger. As tiring as this year has been, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

January: I started the year off by being off work until my due date and being very pregnant. It was also the month that we welcomed Amelia into our family.

February: besides feeding, changing, burping, rocking, etc Amelia, we were thrown a wonderful baby shower this month.

March: we were also thrown another wonderful baby shower this month by my MIL and SIL. We are lucky ladies!

April: Amelia and I took her first plane ride to Ontario to see my family and have a photo shoot with her cousin C. She also got to celebrate her first Easter.

May: I ran my first race since having Amelia- the 10k at the Calgary Marathon. We also took Amelia for her first hike in the mountains

June: my mom came to visit and we started our baby & mom fitness class

Amelia and her friend C- they were so little!

Christmas 2015

Holy, Christmas just flew by! Crazy that it's all over for another year. Before I get into my Christmas recap, let's rewind to a few days before Christmas.

On the 22nd, I mentioned to Mr.D that one of the tires looked low in our SUV. He had done an oil change and added air the day before, so he checked it again and it was way down! He was able to get an appointment at Costco to get it looked at and we found out that there was a nail in the side wall so it couldn't be replaced. We also found out that they didn't have any tires in our size in stock and neither did Canadian Tire. We had planned to drive to Edmonton on the 23rd, but looked like our plans were being delayed. We luckily found a small tire shop that had the size we needed in stock and could get us in on the 23rd! We were close to needing new tires, so we ended up getting all four new ones...Merry Christmas to us?!

After the tire debacle, we loaded up in the afternoon of the 23rd and drove to Edmonton. We didn't end up getting into town until 4:30-5pmish, so it was dinner and put Amelia to bed once we settled in.

On Christmas eve, we just hung out at my in-laws during the day. I took Harley for a chilly run (it was -13Cish the whole time we were there) and then got showered and ready to go. We went to have dinner with Mr.D's extended family and it was nice to see everyone. In Mr.D's family, there is only one boy for the kids and then there are 12-13's crazy!

I was the kid whisperer as I had a package of puffs ;)

On Christmas morning, we had breakfast with Mr.D's parents and of course opened gifts! Amelia was definitely spoiled- a drum, shakers, books, pjs, snow suit, wagon, etc. My mom started a bit of a joke about a shirt that my FIL wears, so I had him another one made just in case the first one gets ruined...his expression when he opened it was so perfect!

In the afternoon after Amelia's nap, we headed over to my BIL's house for dinner with everyone. They were hosting about 25 people, so it was a full house! They made a delicious meal and I am still mad I left my leftover stuffing at my in-laws house :(

Boxing day was pretty quiet during the day- Mr.D went to Costco with his brother and I took Harley for another chilly run. Just after dinner, we headed out to go to a friend's house and my MIL put Amelia to bed. We had a fun night catching up with our friends, but didn't get home until 2:45am!!! Way too late for this girl especially when Amelia was up at 6:15am the next morning.

Tired puppy dog!

On the 27th, we were both moving a bit slow and had naps in the morning. Around lunch, one of Mr.D's friends came over with his wife that was visiting. It was great to see them as they live in Wales and we only get to see them when they are here for a visit. In the afternoon, we went to our nieces birthday party at a local play centre. Amelia missed her nap, but she ended up being a trooper and super happy while we were there.

We made the drive back home yesterday and spent the rest of the day unpacking and playing with Amelia's new toys.

Tell me: how was your Christmas?

{amelia}: eleven months

Holy moly, I have an almost one year old! How did this happen?!

You can find her previous updates here:

Weight/height: I went to the health clinic a couple weeks ago and she was 19lbs 6oz, so I'm guessing she is close to 20lbs with the amount of food she eats!

Hair/eyes: still blue and hair is still blonde. It's still growing like crazy!

this is how the photo shoots typically go now!
  • throwing food on the floor from her high chair
  • crawling everywhere
  • pulling up on everything
  • walking along the couch
  • when I crawl behind her and pretend I'm going to get her
  • "kissing" me with an open mouth or licking me
  • dancing to music or shows
  • crawling up the stairs

  • laying down to get dressed or have her diaper changed. The crying and screaming that happens is not fun!
  • having her face wiped
  • putting on her boots, jacket and hat (I love winter)

Eating: she is still a good eater and still loves to mainly feed herself. I am still breastfeeding a couple times throughout the day, but it's more of a comfort nurse for her as she doesn't get a tonne from me. She otherwise gets a small bottle (120mLs) of formula after her naps and then a bigger one before bed (180mLs).

Sleeping: she is still a great sleeper. She goes to bed around 7pm and has been sleeping through to 6am (she weaned herself off the 5am feed which was nice!). She has two naps during the day...typically goes down between 9-9:30am and then again between 2:30-3pm. Her naps are anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 40 minutes.

  • wears size 3 swaddlers and then size 4 baby dry at night
  • wears mostly 9 month clothes and sleepers with a few other random sizes (ie: she can wear 12-18 months at Old Navy)
  • got her 4th and 5th teeth this month! (she got her top left and then the one next to her top right tooth)
  • went on her 5th and 6th plane ride to Ontario
  • never sits still!
