Scenes from the week + end

Last week, my mom was in town for a visit and we stayed busy all week! Let's see what we were up to:

We went to Iron Horse park for a train ride. The kids seemed to like it! Stopped to take in some canola fields on our way home.

On Monday, we went to East Village to meet up with my cousin and her two girls. It was a super hot day, so the kids ended up half naked in the water playing.

On Tuesday, we went to the splash park in our neighbourhood and hung out in the backyard.

On Wednesday afternoon, my mom and I went out to Canmore for some window shopping and food, before I ran the First 49 trail race. It was nice to be able to spend one on one time together.

On Thursday, we went to the Calgary reads house, which is always fun. In the evening, Brian and I got to have a much needed date night. We went to Native Tongues, took some pictures, and then grabbed ice cream at Made by Marcus.

We had a quiet day on Friday as my mom left in the late afternoon. We went for a walk/bike ride with the kids, played outside and just enjoyed the day.

On Saturday morning, I headed up to Edmonton with Alison, Nicole and Brie for a girls night and run the Edmonton 10K (I'll do a race recap later!). When we got to Edmonton, we helped Brie deal with the flood at her dad's house. We went to West Edmonton mall to grab our race packages (that mall is crazy!), before having dinner on Whyte Avenue.

Stampede Road Race: race report

On Sunday, I ran the Stampede Road Race 10k for the first time. I was lucky enough to be chosen as a race ambassador for it.

Package pick up

I was volunteering at package pick up on Friday night, so it was super easy to pick up. Most people were in and out of Strides within ten minutes to get their package. In the package, there was: race shirt, macro bar, oatmeal, face wipes, and a couple other samples.

Race day

The 10km race started at 8am, so I left the house just after 7am. There is lots of parking at the nearby high school and in the surrounding neighbourhood. The half marathon started at 7:20am and the 5km started at 8:15am. A quick bathroom stop and said hi to a friend before it was time to line up!

The race course was beautiful! The views of the Glenmore reservoir were gorgeous and took my mind off the pain of running a 10km race! We also got to run on the new pathway which was nice. The last bit of the race was on the track at Glenmore track, which was fun to finish on. I finished in 51:10 and was pretty happy with that!

After the race

Once I crossed the finish line and got my medal, I met up with a couple friends who also ran in the race. We lined up for the delicious scones, pancakes and sausages. Well worth running 10kms for!

They also have kids races (different lengths depending on their age), which was so cute! I helped out at the finish giving the kids their goodie bags.

Thank you again to the race committee for letting me be a part of the race and race day!

Scenes from the week + end

We managed to fit in a lot of fun things last week! Definitely taking advantage of this summer.

Tuesday was a rainy day, so we spent the morning doing science experiments while Gabe napped. Once he was up, I took the kids for haircuts (Gabe's first!). In the afternoon, Amelia had her first swimming lesson in the afternoon, which went well.

Gabe and I didn't do too much on Wednesday during the day. After dinner, we biked with the kids to a park in our neighbourhood. Gabe cried the whole way there, but managed to have fun at the park.

On Thursday, we met up with Alison (and kids) and Nicole (and kids) at the Telus science centre. The kids had fun playing outside at the playground they have set up. We stayed a bit longer than everyone else and played for a bit inside before we headed out.

It was a beautiful day on Friday, so the kids and I went to the splash park in our neighbourhood. We ended up running into someone I know from instagram, so Amelia and her son played together for a while. In the evening, I went to volunteer at package pick up for the Stampe road race.

On Saturday, we took a trip out to Ol MacDonald camp ground to spend the day with Brian's parents and his brother and family, who were camping out there. The kids had a blast at the beach and playing with their cousins. Amelia crashed hard on the way home, but Gabe decided to party for a bit. Luckily, they both went down really well once we got home (we didn't get back until after 9pm).

Sunday morning, I ran the Stamped road race 10k in the morning, which was a fun race! After the race, I helped out with the kids race before heading home. Brian went biking with Justin in the late afternoon, so the kids and I biked to the park before bedtime.
